Vehicle Detail

1970 Triumph Spitfire MKIV This is a great opportunity to own a classic British roadster that will only appreciate over time. This car has been fully restored from the frame up. The photos speak for themselves, but I will give an overview of the car as well. The car is a very early 1971, but due to the way cars were imported and titled back then, it was titled as a 1970, as that was the year it was first sold. (it was originally titled in NJ). The frame of the car was completely disassembled and sandblasted down to bare metal. It was then primed, painted, and clear coated the same color as the car. All suspension components were either restored or replaced. It features polyurethane bushings, Koni shocks all around, sport springs in the front, all new hardware, ball joints, tie rod ends, new leaf spring in the back, etc. The drivetrain was completely gone over. The engine has all new gaskets, new water pump, new fuel pump, new alternator, new valve cover, Mikuni carburetor, new clutch, pacesetter monza exhaust (it’s pretty loud). The timing chain was also replaced. It has an aluminum radiator as well. It really is a great running car. There is much more that I can’t think of off the top of my head. The interior is a mix of new and original. The seats and interior panels are original and the carpets and a lot of the trim is new. The top is in good condition…It fits very tight. Please ask any questions you may have and I will answer them as best I can. Thank you for looking! On Apr-26-18 at 06:44:48 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional Information and Photos: I have received a number of questions about the car, and rather than try to address them individually, I am just going to add as much of the requested information as possible to the ad. Below, I have added many photos of the car both in progress and finished. This should give you an idea of the work that went into the car, and it should also give you a glimpse into some of the areas of the car that you may not otherwise see. Some items that were brought up in questions to me were the state of the drivetrain, bumpers, and interior. So, starting with the engine, it is in good running condition. It was not completely rebuilt. I did replace the head due the original being warped. The head that I put on was purchased from ebay and had supposedly been rebuilt at some point. I had the oil pan off the engine and everything inside looked clean and the bearings felt good, so I saw no need to do a complete rebuild. I did replace all of the gaskets, thermostat, water pump, timing chain and sprockets, fuel pump, filters, all hoses, etc. Overall, the engine runs well and cool. The car does leave about a quarter sized drop of oil when parked. My understanding is that this is very normal for these cars. The transmission was not rebuilt. It shifts well through all gears, including reverse. The only thing that is not perfect is that occasionally there is a slight grind going from first to second gear, but only after driving a while. Otherwise it feels very solid. The rear differential is in in great shape. It has a new front seal and a new gasket. All universal joints in the drive shafts and axle shafts were replaced. The bumpers are original and they do show their age. They are very straight and solid, but the chrome could probably use a refresh. It’s something I would probably do if I was keeping the car, but they are presentable as they are, so I used them as is. The interior is in nice shape as you can see in the photos. The seats and panels are original, but in really nice shape for their age. Again, I would probably get new upholstery if I was keeping the car (eventually), but it is very presentable as is. The carpet is all new. The center armrest and knee pads were added from a later model spitfire. It makes for a much more comfortable drive. The dash is solid walnut. It also has a moto-lita steering wheel and shift knob. The glass is all original. The gaskets and weather stripping is all new. The windshield is in really nice shape for its age. The door glass is in fair condition (no chips, but there are some vertical scratches from worn weather stripping in the past). The body of the car is very solid. I replaced any rusted parts with brand new metal welded in. You can see the details of this in some of the photos that I added below. The underside of the body was sprayed with Raptor bedliner tinted to the same red that the car is painted. The paint is base coat clear coat and the color is Mazda velocity red mica. All of the restoration work was done by me and my father. I am not a professional mechanic and don’t do this for a living. It is a hobby for me, and I enjoy the process of restoring old cars. This was not my first restoration, so I like to think that I at least have some idea of what I am doing J. Hopefully this answers all of the questions you may have. I want any potential buyers to be as informed as possible. If there are any questions that I did not answer, please ask and I will add any additional information I can. Thank you! .
