Let me go through a brief discussion on the Ford 3.5 and 3.7 and explain why! The ford 3.5 and 3.7 V6's are great engines, known to be durable and. candidly last forever. However, they have a problem! The timing chains! Ford came out with this great idea to make the water pump timing chain driven, and is stressed under the loads of the timing chain. Of course Ford put the water pump at the highest stress point in the engine as well! So, around 75-100k miles you'll start to get random misfire codes, fuel rich exhaust will start plugging your catalytic convertors, and eventually, your water pump will start to leak...Ford, in their infinite wisdom put the area right where it leaks into the oil sump, so...then you have coolant in your oil...and there goes your engine on your new baby! I've seen it time and time again, and they ALL FAIL! Google it. So, consider this when purchasing one of these. On the flip side, Ford has updated the water pumps, phasers, timing chain, tensioners...as they know this is a problem...out of warranty you are out of luck! Secondly, they won't cover your Catalytic Converters under the emissions warranty because they were destroyed by your engine. So, now you've got a $7,000 repair all said and done! This Interceptor was recently purchased from a Suburban municipality, with 80k miles on it, I wouldn't touch it, but...I discovered after reading all the maintenance records, this vehicle was just in at Ford for new Cats, timing chain, water pump, phasers, ect. It has had the $7,000 repair that they all need! Every single one of them! It also had the transmission and PTU replaced in the past 10k miles by Ford, receipts above. So, she is ready to go another 200k miles without issue! The brakes were recently all done at Ford as well. Oil has been changed every 5000 miles I have all the receipts. This was a Supervisors car, most of the hours are actual driving hours...most you see for sale have idled 20,000 hours with 60k miles on them...if we do the math you are buying a 200k mile vehicle! This truck is all black, with partially white doors...paint the doors and the roof for say $700 and you got a really nice driver! No ripped seats or any of that nonsense! All Police equipment has been professionally removed and it runs and drives great! Needs nothing, all service is up to date and documented. I would not pass this one up because of the Service, and the water pump replacement...yes, this is a engine out job! Clean title in my name. For sale locally as well!
