The 1971 Buick Riviera GS was the first and very best of this spectacular Boat Tail design, by the Bill Mitchell automobile concept team. The 1971 GS is unique mechanically as well; the 1971 GS motor is a factory-modified high-performance 455, 4bbl, full out fast without any horsepower restraints. All the later year models have less horsepower due to the gas shortage climate beginning at that time. The 1971 Riviera GS also has the original Excellence of design, the Grille, Bumpers, Tail Lights and the ventilation Trunk Louvers are all beautifully executed. There has never been any rust inside the rear deck louvers, they are beautiful. The 1971 GS standard factory features are a beefed up suspension, performance axle with a positive traction differential (limited slip) and a full rear stabilizer bar. 0-60 time of 8.1 seconds for the 1971 GS as reported when new.
