BEAUTIFUL AND RARE LIMELIGHT (SUBLIME) 1970 ROADRUNNER Those serious about these cars don’t need a history of the brand; however I find this one of the most interesting parts of owning this car. In fact, the father of the Roadrunner, Jack Smith, recently passed away, and the story of how he convinced Chrysler to accept his marketing idea to name this car after a cartoon character is amazing, and one of the most rewarding success stories in automotive history in my opinion. I met my Roadrunner 20 years ago in a barn in Prescott, Arizona. Not sure how it got there, but it had been stored for a few years in that barn. The owner pulled back the cover and the car seemed to glow lime green. He opened the trunk and it was full of plaques and awards which the car had won a couple of decades ago. I knew then that there was a long and glorious history behind this muscle car. I drove it home that day, and over the past twenty years have only taken it out when Good Guys comes to town, or perhaps to a neighborhood car show. It has been stored, covered in my garage for the majority of the past 20 years. However, I did take it to a well-known painter about 8 years ago who put an amazing paint job on the car, in its original factory color as you will see from its fender tag. The paint is incredible as you will see in the pictures. The car is original for the most part, and I intentionally kept it this way. The mileage shown is how the car was titled to me, and I have put less than 3,000 miles I would estimate. It has power steering and drum brakes. Points and condenser like from the factory. It was restored sometime in the 80’s I believe, based on the article in CAR CRAFT MAGAZINE where it appeared. I have the magazine and the letter from CAR CRAFT which goes with the car. It was during this era that the Roadrunner was widely shown on the West Coast, resulting in the awards, plaques and watercolor painting which also goes with the car. This Roadrunner is a hit with all ages. Those of us who had one in the past, or those who knew someone that had one, or those who just always wanted one. It sounds like a beast with the rumble of the flowmasters, and it will light up the tires. The life size Wylie Coyote who goes with the car is a huge hit with the young kids and is fun at the car shows. BELOW IS THE DECODING INFORMATION:EG3 - 383/335 CID Magnum 335 HP. It is both an investment, as its value has continued to escalate, and a blast when you drive it. You will not be able to count the number of "thumbs up" you will receive! The car needs only a few things to become perfect. The hood mounted turn signals needs repair, and the front seat needs to be re-upholstered if you are looking for perfection. The tic-toc tach also does not work. These are inexpensive improvements that I had intended to make, but did not get around to do. The 383 block is not matching numbers, but as far as I can tell the remainder of the drive train is. 727 transmission with a 8 ¾ rear end and 3.23 gears. The original AM radio was replaced at some point with an AM/FM unit. Please call or email me with questions and I will be prompt with my reply.Craig602-300-1010 On Jan-11-18 at 15:57:03 PST, seller added the following information: REVISION: This an R23 car which is a HARDTOP REVISION: A Mopar Expert examined the car and determined that the block(which I knew was not numbers matching) actually is a 1971 date stamp and is a 400. That will explain the extra canister mounted on the firewall. Remember this was a California car with the additional emission requirements, and you can see the additional tube coming off the intake manifold.
