Vehicle Detail
Would you like to stand-out with a car that looks like nothing else on the road? Then you need this Jaguar! It is the MOST-ELEGANT modern-vehicle ever manufactured! This is a car with more character and under-stated luxury than any other! SCROLL DOWN FOR LOTS OF PHOTOS & VIDEO OF THIS OUTSTANDING JAGUAR! 2002 Jaguar Vanden Plas- Special Presidential Edition with exclusive suede (alcantara) roof-liner, real wood with genuine gold inlay, extensive chrome trim and mahogany tray tables for the rear-passengers- This jaw-droppingly marvelous Jaguar Vanden Plas has a unique powerful deep-gray color that was ONLY offered by Jaguar in 2002. In 6-years of driving the car I've only seen one other Vanden Plas in this color.- 4.0 liter V8 does 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds, faster than a Porsche Boxster from the same year! Among the fastest 4-door cars made in that era (see for yourself on: https://youtu.be/ZhEMEVlIeo4)- Genuine mahogany wood with 18k gold inlay cut from a single tree so the grains continue panel to panel throughout ALL 21 wood trim-panels in this car (NOT fake woodgrain-plastic!)- Genuine leather used EVERYWHERE, including the back of the seats, the shifter-bezel, the grab handles above each passenger door, etc.- Super-plush/thick real lambswool rugs- RARE! This is the last of the genuine British Jaguars - in the year 2004, Ford bought Jaguar and replaced this classic British XJ with an American model resembling a Jaguar body kit over a Lincoln Town Car with numb floaty air suspension.- Famous car-guy Jeremy Clarkson of The Grand Tour (GT) and Top Gear TV shows, who has literally reviewed every car made in the last 35-years, had the same Jaguar as his personal daily-driver for many years.- 28mpg on the highway, huge 22-gallon fuel tank = 600+ mile range on a single fill-up (on the Top Gear TV show they drove a Jaguar XJ from Switzerland to England on a single tank)- Phenomenal suspension handles like a sports car if you push it but with a super stable quality comfort-ride that absorbs potholes like they are not even there.- Considered the best-styled car of all time, the proportions are very different from any other car - it has the sleek width and a low-profile height of a sports car (i.e. similar height to a Ferrari), but is almost twice the length (201") and seats 5 people very-spaciously. - The first owner of this car paid over $80,000+ for it in 2002 (after taxes.) - Unique signature Jaguar fuel-filler door is positioned near the top corner of the trunk- Front airbags plus side impact airbags in the front seat bolsters- Front fog lights AND rear fog lights (yes, when someone high-beams you just turn on the very-bright rearward facing lights... this car is so cool :)- Steering wheel has power tilt and power extend/retract functions, position is saved to your seat-memory.- Seat memory 1 and 2 are paired to keyfobs 1 and 2, whichever fob is used to unlock the doors will automatically trigger the associated memory-setting (you can disable this if preferred.)- Seat heaters for both front and rear seats!- Both front seats are fully-power adjustable including electric headrest control and pneumatic lumbar control. The front-passenger seat can also be controlled by additional buttons that are accessible to the driver and rear passengers (to move the seat for passengers who struggle to find the controls on their own - anyone who drives elderly passengers can relate to how useful this is)- The driver's seat slides back and the steering wheel moves out of your way upon shutting off the car; they return to the original position when you start the engine (you can shut this feature off if preferred) - There is a HIDDEN STORAGE bin under the hood within the engine bay!- Inside the spacious glove compartment is a separate top-mounted parcel shelf for paperwork and a pen holder (in the photo I've got a cologne vial in it.) There is also storage cubby-space in each of the 4 doors, a very-large concealed leather pocket at the front of each of the two front seats and pockets for the rear-seat passengers on the seat-backs that can fit a few magazines in each, a small 5" semi-concealed cubby-storage to the lower-left of the steering wheel and padded eyeglass storage in the ceiling-console.- Genuine leather wrapped grab handles over the doors with chrome end caps.- Auto-dimming electrochromatic rearview mirror- Built-in universal garage door opener with buttons for 4 doors - Automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers with like-new Bosch Icon windshield wiper blade- Non-smoker car, both of the 2 cigar-lighters and all 3 ashtrays (yes, 3!) have never been used - Quality Ultra-High Performance All-Season tires are mounted in the Vanden Plas OEM factory size, tread depth is almost-new (see photos.) The rear pair are Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season M+S V-Rated, the front pair are Yokohama Advan S4 W-rated tires that are safe to 168 mph, but this Jaguar has an electronic-limiter that engages at 155mph. There have been some daring drivers who've disabled the limiters on their cars and proven that this luxurious Jag is actually capable of exceeding 180+ MPH!- Car has a full-size spare tire on the factory-original matching wheel (identical to the other 4 wheels on the car) and an "easy-lift" geared scissor jack (MUCH easier to lift this car than with most OEM jacks!) - NYS inspection valid until July 31, 2018- Oil and other fluids are all the correct color with no signs of any engine issues. Photo of the oil on the dipstick was taken about 1,000-miles after the last oil change. - Comes with 2 keys and 2 electronic keyfobs- The car has a factory-original Jaguar "Premium Sound" Harman Kardon amplifier driving the 12 Alpine speakers, as well as an aftermarket 12" Pioneer subwoofer in a sealed car-enclosure powered by a separate 1,200 watt amplifier in the trunk - the amp is hidden next to the spare tire and the subwoofer is literally just placed in the back of the trunk, so you can easily remove them if you wish to (but you will miss the monster bass if you do.) Don't get the wrong idea - I'm not a "young" driver, I listen to Jazz through this - put on the song "Ooh" by Marcus Miller and you will understand why you NEED a 12" subwoofer in a classic Jaguar. I normally leave the amp on the "3" power setting which balances nicely with the OEM Jaguar Alpine speakers; if you crank it up to 10 (maximum) you can make the cars around you vibrate! - The engine operates perfectly, is smooth and powerful with no noises, leaks, smoke or dashboard error-lights, and no known issues, these powertrains were designed for 300,000 mile life spans - so this Jag engine is not even halfway through its designed lifespan and will easily keep driving for another decade or two. Verify for yourself on the Jaguar Forums how many people have cars with nearly twice the miles of this one and they are still working fine (http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj8-xjr-x308-27/what-highest-mileage-308-out-there-130036/)- All exterior lights work including front and rear fog lamps. - Headlights have been converted to Xenon lights.- All interior electrics (heat, A/C, power windows/locks, power seats, seat heaters front & back, etc.) work perfectly. A/C blows very cold, heat is very hot and warms up the cabin on cold-days substantially quicker than other cars I've owned.- The stereo has been cleanly-converted to have a line-in aux input which is connected to a Bluetooth adapter to play music from your phone- All the consumable parts as well as the rubber/plastic parts that wear from age have been replaced over the last year including all of the rubber components in the steering and both front and rear suspension (4 new shocks, all the bushings, ball joints, tie rods, shock mounts, both engine mounts and transmission mount, etc.) The plastic thermostat housing (and the thermostat itself) was also swapped with a new metal body one along with the rubber coolant manifold tubing that it connects to. No maintenance (beyond oil changes) are expected to be needed for several years. That is the good stuff, now here are the known issues:- Like driving a Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Maybach or any exotic luxury car, be prepared for random people to approach you to compliment how beautiful your Jaguar is at least a few times every day (not an exaggeration! Buy and see for yourself!)- I love this car, it was my dream car my whole life, but the car has been my daily driver for 6-years now in New York, and the prior owners put a lot of highway-miles on it - at this point it has been driven a lot and it shows a healthy amount of aesthetic-wear both inside and out - do not expect this to be a car to present at the classic car shows, but do expect a stunning breathtakingly beautiful vehicle that is an amazing value, but also has a lot of imperfections.- Of the 50 or so buttons in the dashboard and interior, the lightbulbs behind about 6 of them need replacing as they no longer light up at night (all the buttons function perfectly and the on/off indicator lights in the buttons work perfectly too, just the backlights of a few of the buttons don't light up at night when the headlights go on.)- Seat-memory buttons 1 and 2 work perfectly, button for person #3 does not do anything when you push it.- When you drive the car aggressively the transmission shifts perfectly - super-smooth with precise instant downshifts and nearly-imperceptible upshifts. However, if you drive very-moderately "with a light-foot" the transmission tends to hold onto the higher gears and struggle to downshift - getting more aggressive with the throttle makes this issue non-existent. Someone who is not mechanically-inclined would probably not even notice the car is doing this. The car has been like this about a year and has 100% faithfully always gotten me from point A-to-B without any issues or drama - but figure at some point in the future this mighty Jaguar will probably need a transmission rebuild. I'd guess you could postpone the rebuild another year or two and the car will continue to drive reliably, but this is not a guarantee, just a guess based on having 6-years of experience with this car.- The light inside the trunk interior does not light up when you open the trunk- Stereo works great via Bluetooth, aux-in plug, cassette and AM-radio. The connections to the CD changer and FM-antenna-motor were used to wire up the aux-in + Bluetooth, so CD/FM don't work anymore and the antenna-mast remains in the down-position concealed inside the trunk. You could revert this, but not sure why anyone would since you can now play radio and music wirelessly from your phone into the car stereo.
