ABOUT THIS VW THING; this THING was a Florida car for the first part of its life and was used sparingly by a Florida couple as a cute run about car. The car was then (in the 90s) purchased by a gentleman from Kentucky that used it to tow behind his motor home. At some point he decided to give the car to his favorite Nephew who had recently got married I suppose his new bride was not real fond of the basic car therefore it sat in a heated dry garage for the next nine years. When I found the car it was in great shape but needed a serious going over. It had been painted with primer for a long time and the primer was beginning to collect surface rust. My interest in the car was that I had 2 of them in my Georgia hunting lodge in my earlier days and they were absolutely fantastic. With the 4 wheel independent suspension they were great for the road/woods as well as the weekends on the Florida beach. I guess that my love for the card had dwindled over the 20+ years since I had one, however a friend and I overtook bringing the car back as close to original as possible. We had the car taken apart and professionally taken down to the bare metal and then repainted in the original white. We then went to work replacing all the seats with original equipment, put floor pads in, and replaced the side curtains, (the windows.) We replaced the aged lights and other interior accessories. A major accomplishment was to re work the heating system and defrosters. We replaced the top all the molding throughout the car and it now is as close to new condition as you can get it. The car never had a lot of rust anywhere and that included the floor pans which is quite often bad in a 43 year old vehicle, these were nearly perfect In addition to the pictures accompanying this add we have pictures at all phases of the reconstruction. We spared no effort in seeing that the car was brought as close to perfect as it could be done. We are proud of our work and it was a great satisfaction to see the THING back and beautiful as she once was when she was new. : THE NEW PARTS THAT WE PUT ON THE CAR ARE AS FOLLOWS New mag wheels and tires, with less than 500 miles. New paint job, vehicle taken down painted and re assembled. New top. Re built side curtains. Purchased storage pouches for the side curtains to store them when not in use. These are important to have as the vinyl that the side curtains are made of can get scratched and dirtied when not installed. New wipers New plugs and oil complete tune up car runs perfect. New molding throughout the vehicle. (Trunk, engine compartment, all doors, around lights.) New seats New floor mats New heater and defroster system. Installed a radio w/ cassette
