Vehicle Detail
1979 Trans Am. When I got the car it was a very solid car and it was in Gray Primer. It also originally had a 403 BOP Motor in it. That motor was totally shot so I replaced it. And that's where it all begins! I started with a GM Crate 355ci. 420hp Roller Motor from Robo Racing. Next I put a Brand New B&M TH350 From Jeggs. Installed a New Hurst Pro-Matic Shifter that looks great and it works great too. The entire Engine Bay was cleaned degreased detailed and painted in Flat Black prior to motor Installation. As you can see there are all new parts on the motor, Power Steering, a 1 wire Alternator, water pump etc,, Then I replaced every wire from headlight to taillight with a Painless Wiring Kit. I also added the Power Window Kit so Power Windows go up and down fast as they should. Electrically everything works 100% including brake and tail lights and marker lights. You open the door and the lights go on. The cigarette lighter works etc.. I replaced every gauge with Glo-Shift Digital LED Gauges, They have 7 color choices at the push of a button. They were very expensive but worth every penny. They look great and every one works properly. The interior has all new seats also. The front seats are Racing Seats with Carbon Fiber look. The rear are stock Trans Am that were recovered in the same Carbon Fiber Material. Both Front and Rear seats also have really nice Red Stitching. The Center console Arm rest is also New and Has a Carbon Fiber material and 2 cup holders. Interior looks really good. Every Part in the front end was replaced. New upper and lower ball joints, stabilizer links, tire rods, Spindles, Coils etc,, and I added Billstein Shocks (wow what an upgrade). The steering Box was swapped for quick steer box and this car handles like it was brand new and running on rails!! The handling is so impressive. I truly believe the Billstein Shocks are Incredible. The stock drum rear (273 Gears) was swapped for an 1981 Disc Rear with 308 Gears. I built the car to drive on the parkways and that it does well. The 308's cruise the car at 70 mph. If you want to do burnouts then get a set of 373's. As for the Brakes I installed all new Wilwood Brakes, Brake Pads and Brake Lines, New Wilwood Brake Master with proportioning valve and a Brad New Wilwood Brake Booster. The car stops on a dime. Mechanically this Trans Am is 100% New. From the New Aluminum 4 core Radiator (filled with BeCool fluid) to the new Disc Brakes in the rear. You push the button it starts it sounds great and it runs even better. As for the Body I love the look of the Rear on a 1979 Trans Am, The taillights going completely across the back. However I personally love the nose of the 1978 Trans Am, So I installed a 1978 nose on the car for my taste. As you can tell I am not stuck on originality and I am sure that some of the purists are upset once they seen the 5.7 swapped for the 403. oops,, I just wanted to build something that was cool but at the same time was not a Hollywood "Smokey and the Bandit" car. So you can see in the pictures that it was painted with House of Color Hot Rod Flatz Black Satin Paint. The side vents, the spoiler and the hood scoop were done in Gloss Black. The window Trim and Door Handles are also done in Black Gloss. The accents look great on the car and give it good balance The body had no rot when I got this car and anything that was found was addressed appropriately before paint. There is a small spot in the trunk in the furthest passenger side rear corner. The rest of the trunk is solid as is the rest of the car. This car has less than 300 miles on it since the rebuild. I just don't drive it. I truly enjoyed working on this car. I have spent a Ton of Money and spent a ton of time Hooking this Car up. There is also new Cragar rims and tires. Once I got started going on this car I just kept doing more and more. What needs attention is the following. There is no stereo in the car. I planned on doing a DVD player in the front dash with an Ipod/Android hookup. There is still room for separate power both always on and keyed on in the Painless Wiring Fuse Panel. The driver side rear armrest and sail panel are not installed because the wiring for the stereo wasn't installed yet. Those parts are in the trunk so it is ready to be reinstalled, The door Jams need to be touched up with flat black paint. The hood hinges are a little stiff. A new set would be a great upgrade. The sill plates for the doors need to be replaced. They are pretty well scuffed up. It needs a new headliner. The front directional lights work properly however they are not in the light housings. I don't have the housings. They are available on the internet. The AC was not there when I got the car, however the plumbing is still there and can be reinstalled fairly easily. It is a very small punch list and very easy to make it complete. A new owner and some enthusiasm will do this car perfectly. This is a very cool car and it looks and runs awesome. Like I said it is just broken in. Very very new! That motor runs Nasty and the Transmission shifts perfect. It steers like its on rails and it rolls smooth. I have a video of it running and a whole bunch of extra pictures of the whole resto process. No head games please. I am moving on to my next project. $15,000 is a steal!!!!
