Vehicle Detail

Beautifully kept by and still owned by original owner. Interior and exterior are almost immaculate given the miles. But sadly, the engine has major problems - the cars runs and drives but I would not recommend relying on it for any distance. Being sold as-is, but with a valid Massachusetts title (in hand). This vehicle is not being sold on a salvage title! The good:Maintained "by the book" or more frequently by MB dealer and original ownerOutstanding cosmetics in & out, no curb rash on wheels, no (yes - zero) door dingsHas been "kid-free" no melted ice cream between the seats and "dog-free" - no mats of hair!Brakes (pad and rotors) & wheel bearing replaced about 30K miles ago w/ MB PartsTwo new Airmatic rear suspension airbagsAdBlue heater and level sensor replaced 30K miles agoAirmatic air pump replaced 50K miles agoOil cooler seals replaced and swirl motors rebuilt at 105K milesEverything works as is should (except engine)No oil or fuel leaksNo accident history (aside from a tree limb falling on it - see below) You decide:Hood, front fenders, and roof repainted (by MB dealer body shop) after a tree limb fell on roof and dented roof, A-pillar, and driver's door - about 15K miles ago. No structural damage, just sheet metal dents and a sheared off side view mirror. Hence, there is none of the wear, stone chips, and scratched one would normally see on a 180K miles car. Paint match was perfect. The bad:Engine consumes lots of oil (1qt/500 miles)Timing belt has stretched (engine clatters for a few seconds at start-up)Check engine light sometimes illuminated (B-bank NOX circuit performance fault and EGR fault)Slight diesel exhaust smell in cabin when idling and stationary - probably fuel injector sealsSometimes starts-up and runs fine, other times it stumbles and stalls a few timesSometimes reverts to low power limp-home mode, other times runs and drives perfect. Opinions:Car needs engine work - safest route would be a new or rebuilt engine - nothing needed on rest of car. A short block with some accessories could do the trick. A complete engine replacement (with accessories) could make sense if you locate a reasonable priced replacement and DIY or have a value-conscious mechanic. Cost to do either at MB dealer would be prohibitive. Might just need EGR valves and/or swirl motors cleaned/replaced, new injector seals, de-sludging, and an eye on the oil level to go many more miles reliably. Car being sold as-is - no warranty - no returns. And no stories! I have set a low reserve, just to prevent non-sensical low ball offers. The part has significant value just for parts. Listed in other locations, so reserve the right to terminate auction w/o notice. I will entertain buy-it-now offers. On Sep-11-17 at 05:56:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Update: For the last couple days, the engine would start but would not keep running. CEL is reading an EGR fault. I expect the EGR valve may be clogged w/ carbon or sludge. I will attempt to remove and clean and see if it makes a difference, and will update listing with results. Presently, the car would need to be flat-bedded or trailered to transport. On Sep-13-17 at 06:18:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Update #2 - I have been unable to remove and service the EGR valve - a special tool is required which I do not have. So, at present, the car is NOT RUNNING.
