Vehicle Detail
1979 Porsche 924 - 2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder - 5 Speed Manual 98,600 Miles Excellent Mechanical Condition! Drives extremely nice! Shifts, starts and runs smooth. Easy to drive around town and does very well at highway speeds. Very reliable older Porsche that has survived it's 38 years with no molestation. Known history since 2001 and 63,000 miles At 70,000 miles, the following items were replaced or restored:Rebuilt fuel distributorNew Ignition Control Module and CoilMetal coolant pipes were cleaned and re-platedNew radiator and coolant hosesNew fuel injectorsNew cam and oiler tube elbowOil pumpNew Dansk cat back stainless exhaust with proper 924 oval tipFresh carpet, door panels, rear seats and power window conversionResurface rotors, new rear brake cylinders and rubber brake linesNew brake pads and shoesNew windshieldNew Alpine 6x9 speakers mounted in rear trunk areaFront drop links and tie rod ends with alignmentFirestone Firehawk tires in correct 185/70/14 sizesFuel sender unitNew ventilation fanNew A/C compressor was installed and R12 system was restored, but system has lost its charge.New ignition wires At 97,300 miles, the following items were replaced or restored: Full tune up including plugs, air filter, oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, cap and rotorTiming Belt and Timing Belt IdlerNew alternator belt and A/C beltBrake fluid flush and rear brake shoes adjustedNew alternatorNew Bosch starterWater pump and coolant flushNew 7” brake booster installed with full check of brake system by trusted shop to insure all was functioning at proper levels.New Boge front strut insertsAuxiliary air valve (New Old Stock item!)New Bosch fuel accumulatorWindshield wiper switchIgnition switchNew bulbs for brake lights, turn signals and side marker lampsTransmission fluid changedI asked my shop to replace ball joints, but they felt it was unnecessary due to the tight and solid condition of those joints. Wheel bearings checked as well.Fuel tank was removed, cleaned, flushed and sealed with Red Kote. New Porsche in-tank filter installed along with new filler and vent hoses. Sunroof panel lifts out easily, dark center "Tarantula" wheels were an option in '79 and rear spoiler added at some point prior to 2001. All gauges and warning lights work including low fuel light, high beams, turn signal indicator and brake indicator. Clutch has nice grab to it. Clock is keeping time nicely. Tach tracks perfect and speedo is functioning well. Fuel gauge is accurate and temp gauge monitors coolant without error. Heating system gets the cabin as hot as you wish and fresh air ventilation fan works well.Carpet is fresh, headliner is in excellent shape. Spare tire, jack and tool kit wrapped in it's black plastic bag are original and in place. Car was originally delivered in ’79 to Jeffords Motor Cars in Brookfield Wisconsin. The prior owner (a true car guy), myself and my trusted shop all feel that the indicated 98,600 miles are accurate based on all the original parts still on the car that we’ve replaced that could not have lasted past 100,000 miles. Original starter and water pump will be included with the car for proving condition of those items at 97,000 miles when I had them removed along with spreadsheet detailing repairs since '01. Odometer and trip odometer are functioning perfectly with no grinding or noises. Original owner's manual and maintenance manual included in the customary maroon holder. Two original keys, glove box key (original Porsche item!) and two locking fuel cap keys are present. A very nice running 924 that shifts well, handles well, brakes well and is a hoot to drive. This car drives exceptionally straight!! 28 mpg! Fully detailed. Lot's of money has been spent on this nice example of an early 924.VIN is 9249205495 with clean title in my name.Issues:There are several surface rust spots on both doors and fenders that are not through and have been touched up. There is a rust through condition at the bottom of the driver's front fender from the body drain that was plugged and some clear coat is peeling at the top of this same fender. Surface rust has been touched up along the drip rails on both sides of roof. All has occurred prior to '01 since this 924 has been garaged since then. Undercarriage is excellent for its age and all fasteners loosen up easily; a great car to wrench on! Driver's side quarter panel and door have been repainted at some point in the past. Passenger seat has split seams and driver's seat is showing wear including seam issues. Dash has a few cracks near defrost vents. Minor dings, stone chips and scratches are present that would be expected of a 38 year old car with 98,000 miles on it, though I've done my best to touch everything up. Original radio is installed, but one channel is intermittent and the cassette section is not working. Not many 924's around that run as well as this one and it still turns heads and gets attention! Perfect for the Saturday morning run to Cars and Coffee or Thursday night car show at the local ice cream shop. Please feel free to ask any and all questions or request any additional pics.On Aug-15-17 at 12:34:10 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional Notes: I will include the original door panels and rear seats that match the tweed pattern on the front seats pictured in the car. The tweed fabric material on these door panels and rear seats are stained, but still reasonably intact. Hand / parking brake holds car firmly with associated warning lights coming on correctly when brake is engaged. On Aug-15-17 at 20:38:12 PDT, seller added the following information: YouTube video below is of the 924 start and idle from 08/13/17. I backed the car out of the garage, shut it off, then got my phone and filmed this clip. https://youtu.be/uVIpYQZ4xNI On Aug-19-17 at 09:25:09 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional Note: I got the car out this morning (Saturday, August 19) for a run on the country back roads near me. It fired up immediately and ran well as it always has done for me. Oil pressure runs around 6-8 bar at speed. A fun drive. It's back in the garage awaiting it's new owner. Thanks for all the questions and interest. I'll do my best to help with any info anyone needs.
