If you are not familiar with this motorcycle, I have a PDF of a comprehensive review from 1977 published by one of the major motorcycle magazines of the period. Just e-maill your request and I will get it to you. In 1964 I had the good fortune to get up close and personal with a just imported Honda 250-4 cyl. (RC164) factory racing bike. The amazing sight and sound of that machine hooked me immediately and for a lifetime on Honda racing bikes. I purchased this little Honda MT125R because it’s history is rooted in the incredible racing machines that Honda introduced in the 60s. Available only in 1977 and 78, there may have been only 400 of these bikes sold to privateers by USA Honda dealers. These bikes made maximum power at over 14,000 rpm and on a good day could hit 120mph. My plan was to over-restore it to perfection and paint it in an updated color scheme reminiscent of the 1960s factory bikes (see photo). As plans often do, this one got side tracked and the restoration was never started. We are now retiring and moving to a smaller house that cannot accommodate this beautiful little machine. The bike has been on display in my office "as is" for the past 5 years. The motorcycle appears to be complete except for some minor parts and the front fender. I was assured that the engine was running when I purchased it although it has not been started since purchased. The gas tank was drained when it was put on display. The head is an aftermarket performance part thought to improve cooling during a race. I believe new wheels and tires were installed in 2012. Please keep in mind that this bike is almost 40 years old. At this age plastic and rubber parts are getting very iffy. The paintwork on the bike, while presentable, is a quick, spray-can coating that looks better at a distance. However as a restoration project this MT125R seems ideal. The bike is incredibly simple and straightforward. Parts seem readily available including fiberglass components. The engine in based on the Honda Elsinore Motocross bikes of the period which are still plentiful. Of course it would be great to see this bike return to racing. No reserve!
