THE OVERVIEW Offered for an appreciating new owner AT NO RESERVE is this 2000 BMW E39 540i sedan! Finished in silver metallic over grey leather interior, this 2000 540i with M sport package sports the 282 horsepower 4.4 liter V8 engine mated to the desirable factory-equipped 6 speed manual transmission! I would classify this car as a light "mechanic special" as it has the typical intermittent chattering plastic timing chain guides. It may drive just fine for another 50,000 miles or it may self-destruct a month from now. in any case, it is one of several 5ers in my little collection that I bought a year ago to use as a 6 speed donor car for my 540i wagon which ended up being acquired by a friend. This E39 sedan has been driven just over 160,000 miles since new. It features 17" Hamman wheels with fair rubber, electric windows and sunroof, electric leather sport seats, M sport steering wheel, COLD a/c, anti-lock brakes, airbags, clean and clear California title and more. I also have the following: 1. 2000 silver on black 540i 6 speed 172k miles, 2. 1998 aspen silver over grey 540i 6 speed with 18" wheels, Dinan extras and custom "art car" hood [and regular hood too!], 3. 2002 sapphire black metallic over tan 530i 5 speed sport package 153k miles., 4. 2003 M5 in carbon black over black and comprehensive service records. 5. 1991 Alpine white over black 535i 5 speed with 212k miles. 6. 1988 535i automatic in white over cardinal red. 7. 1998 BMW 740iL with custom 6 speed manual transmission THE BODY AND TRIM The exterior of this 2000 540i is in FAIR all original 99.9% rust-free California condition overall with a decent overall paint finish. There is some wear/curb rash on the Hamman wheels, fading on the top of rear bumper, hazy headlight covers, along with various nicks, scratches, small dents. THE INTERIOR As I hope is articulated in the photos here, the interior of this BMW is in decent overall condition. The odometer and speedometer work, the A/C blows ice cold and the heater, sunroof and all windows still function properly. It still has the nice M Sport steering wheel and grey leather sport seats. There is some expected wear on the leather upholstery and general wear and tear one would expect from a 17 year-old car. I began stripping some parts off of it like the little rear c pillar map lights, e-brake cover, cup holders and a few other tidbits.. THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE This 2000 BMW starts right up with basically smooth running engine [except for the chattering plastic timing chain guides] and nice shifting transmission, direct responsive steering,and quiet exhaust system. A few items of note include bad brake cylinder which makes the pedal doe easily to the floor. The car does still stop but at about 40% efficiency. This is still a nice smooth driving car on the open road that will yield 25 or so miles per gallon. THE DETAILS AND $$$$$ 1. This 2000 540i is being sold with clear & clean California title.
