I purchased this Excursion while on vacation in Miami, FL May of 2014, because of it's beauty and shape. Drove it up to Chicago, IL without any mechanical troubles..., whatsoever. I had the motor looked over, and was advised by the mechanic to replace the oil injector pump, to keep proper pressure on the fuel injectors. I did.., and I felt an increase in response & power. The motor has a slight tune and awesome power, without any compression blow-by or unfamiliar sounds, while putting the accelerator through the floor. It's been tastefully & professionally lifted 8" The mechanic told me that the motor is in such good shape, that it'll probably last another 300,000 miles before a tear down is needed. These motors last up to 500,000 plus miles, if cared for correctly. The entire frame has been deleted of the minor surface rust, and treated with 'POR 15' throughout. Brand new shocks, (five) 38" tires and added leaf springs were installed for extra stability and pulling integrity. The motor does not leak engine oil...! What diesel does not leak? The engine was done correctly and sounds like a beast from idle to balls out power. The 'cam positioning unit' (Dark blue type) was updated to a more modern Ford type for a better idle, yet motor starts up within 5 cranks, instead of 2. All sumps use Amsoil lubes. The transmission was rebuilt to handle the tune, 3 years ago, according to the seller. I have retained 80% of the receipts pertaining to the vehicle. One of the main reasons I made the purchase of this beast was due to the fact it was a pre-2007 SUV. No smog crap to choke the flow of power and breathing. It has a 5" right off the exhaust collector and ends with an impressive 8". The motor is a real diesel, that makes real diesel sound note, as the healthy turbo screams like the old DC-10. I have it stored inside of a climate controlled facility in Chicago. LOCAL pick-up only, as I will be more than happy to test drive it for you. There is some surface rust on the roof, but has not eaten through. This vehicle deserves a new paint job..., if you're one of those 'picky-picky' type. It sits beautiful as it is...! The interior is pristine and everything works as it should. I am practically giving this vehicle away, at the asking price. If you're an old school, pre-smog diesel junky like me.., then you'll enjoy every moment behind the wheel of this vehicle. It stands just under 8'..., so please consider your garage height.
