Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1974 Suzuki GT750L with VIN GT75049091 that has been cleaned up/corrected. It has not been "restored" - I found this several years ago and bought it from a Kawasaki H2 guy - seems large vintage bikes just like to group together - he had no interest in it and offered it for sale; if it didn't sell he was going to part it out. I checked it out and although the cosmetics really sucked, I was somewhat impressed that it ran on all three cylinders, although not well. My initial plan was to just clean it up and move it on to someone that wanted a "buffalo". After a quick paint job, with an incorrect color, I attempted to start it and tune it up. It was at this point that I realized I now owned a GT250 - the crank seals were wiped out (possibly due to late fall cold weather and age). I pulled the motor and got the crank rebuilt by Bill Bune Enterprises in Minnesota. The top end was nearly at "zero" wear so I installed new pistons/rings and topped the head off with new head bolts and washers. On the bottom end, along with the work Bill's people had performed, I installed a new water pump since I was already way too far into it at this point. The carbs were gone through - ultrasonically cleaned and assembled. A new set of points/condensors were installed and the timing very carefully set. The engine cases and covers were given a cursory cleaning - no high polish here - I didn't want to deprive the next owner of some of the fun of vintage bike ownership. The coil leads were replaced, since the old ones were like glass, and the spark plug caps were likewise replaced. As you can see from the pictures this is not a show bike - I just cleaned it up and corrected a few things on it. Everything on this bike works as intended but, here is the requisite EBay "but", the top horizontal led segment of the gear selector indicator. On the bright side, "1" and "4" work perfect. The handle bars seem to be ever so slightly tweaked - probably the aftermath of a tumble it must have taken in an earlier life (see the front brake lever on the right front side). And speaking of stopping, the front calipers were both completely rebuilt along with the master cylinder. New hoses were installed to connect everything. Overall you are looking at a very nice driver quality bike that has a very fresh engine rebuild, chrome that wears the scratches/patina of the miles it has traveled and an incorrect color (although I tried to give it a modern version of the original burnt orange color Suzuki offered). I've driven it approximately 100+ miles and it runs well. The temperature gage rides just below midway and it holds an idle well. For those kids interested in the mirrors, there's always at least one, this bike has the original type "S" mirrors - how's that for detail? I'm sure it will need additional tweaks on the carbs and a re-check of all hardware as the miles go on. Not sure what else to share so I'll let you ask questions of what is important to you. Not that I should have to say it but here's a big disclaimer - this bike is being sold as is - I cannot attest to the longevity of any 40+ year old part. I believe I have noted all that I am aware of and I will make every possible effort to get clear straightforward answers to your specific questions. The method of transport/pick up and any incurred costs are the responsibility of the winning bidder although I am quite willing and happy to assist with the physical pick up or loading if I am able to. Thank you for looking. On Apr-28-17 at 11:23:11 PDT, seller added the following information: A few folks asked for better pictures - I have added a few more with the zoom function working hopefully. Here's some more information for your consideration too. In addition to the items noted, other items installed were a new seat cover, new rear brake light switch, fork seals replaced and a new drive chain installed (both sprockets looked good and were not replaced). As you can see in the pictures, the frame was not painted, only cleaned up. The center stand shows the patina of its' age. Someone asked about the frame being damaged since I alluded to the handle bar being "tweaked" - I did not see any damage upon cleaning. The bike drives down the road at highway speed and tracks straight - it's just the handle bar "feels" off a bit. The chunk of rubber from the brake lever is small so I am assuming the incurred damage was from a standing still drop (garage incident?) since the lever is straight. I will also note that without knowing the bike's history, I'm not sure what was original when I received the bike and what had been previously replaced. For any of you paying close attention, the forks are indeed not from a 1974 but rather a later year. Are the events connected? I can't say - I can only go by what I see today. Thought I should clear that up for transparency sake. Again, thank you for looking.
