1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL The SL name has always signified a special level of German build-quality and sophistication and this ’83 380SL (R107 model) is an exceptional example. The R107 was introduced in 1972 as the successor of the W113 (Pagoda) series and because of its crisp and timeless lines had an unprecedented model run all the way through 1989. Delivered new in June of 1983 in Santa Barbara, CA this example is finished in stunning Lapis Blue Metallic and is complimented by a dark blue canvas top finished off with a Palamino MB-Tex interior. The exterior paint color is still elegant today, unlike so many of the earth tones that dominated the period. To keep the car “fresh” in recent years the car has been re-painted, had its interior replaced as well as its canvas top replaced. This ‘83 is a great example of a meticulously cared for relatively low mileage (74,947 miles) 380SL. Its 3.8 Litre Aluminum V-8 has been mechanically sorted and in excellent running condition. Engine work in recent years has included replacing the timing chain, tensioner, cam gears, distributor cap and rotor. One glance at the photo’s of the engine bay included reveal the careful care that this car has enjoyed. The car is equipped with its’ originally factory equipped Becker AM/FM Radio w/Power Antenna, power assisted steering, 14” original Mercedes alloy rims and Lapis Blue hardtop outfitted with defrost. All gauges are in full working order and there are no dash cracks. As you would expect from a car of this caliber it is ding-free, rust-free and the interior is in excellent tear-free condition with A/C that blows cold. Also included is its’ original owner’s manual, tool kit, maintenance service booklet, warranty registration cards as well as all factory documentation furnished at delivery. There are many R107’s out there that are little more than shined up high-mileage cars with unknown amounts of deferred maintenance. This outstanding example is one of the few that has been properly cared for and can be driven with confidence.
