Vehicle Detail

Guys, please note I have raised the starting bid to $14K. Sorry however the truth is I simply cannot let it go for less, especially after eBay and PayPal fees. It is truly a gem and I will be proud to keep it if it doesn’t sell. Thanks for understanding. Also, note this recent inquiry and excellent questions from Mike:I’m a life-long Ford and Roush fan and your Mustang is an absolutely stunning example of total performance engineering! Questions; does it still have the original emission equipment? How many miles on the engine? Does it require frequent valve lash adjustment? Does it have rocker arm stud girdles? Does it have a factory or aftermarket rev limiter? What redline did you observe? Recent leak-down test? Are the extras mentioned included at the sale price? Does the roll-cage bar across the driver side door come out? Any oil leaks, i.e. rear main seal? Do you have the front suspension alignment settings recorded as needed to restore it to the geometry that you established for optimal performance if ever needed? Also engine ignition timing, cam card, proportioning valve setting, etc? Does it have an SFI bell-housing? Body looks really straight, any significant imperfections? Sorry for so many questions, but I am a very interested buyer. Awesome car! Thanks, Mike. Mike, excellent questions! These are the types questions that I would like the future owner to ask. It does not have the emissions equipment. The engine and trans went in about 30K miles ago. I tore down the engine about 10K miles ago just to have a look and change the cam. I was happy to find everything in perfect order except there was more end play than I would like to see. I replaced the main bearings and chose a slightly different camshaft and put it back together. I disabled the “clutch in to start” feature to ease the cold start load on the crank thrust to keep the end play happy. The valve lash is a long story of which I am happy to say has a happy and stable ending. I initially struggled with an inadequately designed system from Comp Cams. Their top of the line rocker system had an offset fulcrum and a narrowed down area on the jam nuts. This lead to frequent and unacceptable adjustments as the tip of the jam nuts wore. I switched to the Crane Gold setup and was happy to find centered fulcrums and a big fat land area on the jam nuts. I also went to “lash caps” on the valve stems and now have a super stable setup. I would recommend an inspection every 5K miles at which point you will likely find a thou or two to snug up. I set them to 0.014” cold which correlates to the 0.020” hot that Crane recommends. It has ARP rocker studs and no girdle. The custom calibration has a 6,700 limit programmed in and the shift light goes off at 6,600. I have not done a leak-down test and have no reason to. I’m sure it’s solid! Regarding the extras I can include the spare drive shafts (which you will never need!). I have all kinds of extra parts that would likely be negotiated for a good price as interested. The driver’s door bar is welded in and I have the mating tube for the passenger side that I haven’t yet installed. There are no oil leaks. I have found the following alignment to be optimal for the track and still easy on the tires for street driving: LF Camber 3.0, RF Camber 2.75, Toe 0. I have the cam card, base timing is set to factory 10 degrees and the rest is handled in the custom calibration. The proportioning is set to a 600psi split point and a 43% slope. This is ideal with the ABS which I never turn off (it has a button and light however I never use it). The bellhousing is the one that comes with the T-56 designed for Fox applications. The body is generally perfect (no accidents, never even been off-track) with stone pecking and minor door dings that I have not tried to remove. Thanks for the interest and great questions! Some updates! I found the window sticker (see pic) and many of the engine receipts (see below). I also took some videos with it running (sorry for the vertical footage...). This car absolutely must be seen/inspected to be appreciated. Purchased new in 1988 this Fox body has been meticulously loved and heavily modified by a Ford Performance Chassis engineer who has been doing high performance chassis engineering at Ford for the past 3 decades. She has never seen snow or salt and has never been in an accident and has not even gone off-track. 97K miles of summer only, garage kept driving. Vehicle has been configured to “do it all”…. You can literally drive it daily during the week and lay down the best lap times at your weekend club track events. While it is extremely capable and easy to drive on any road course, it is also a comfortable ride to work or even a cross-country air conditioned drive. It has been extremely reliable and was always driven to and from track events (not a trailer queen ;-). This vehicle is the product of 29 years of engineering exercises and powertrain/chassis development and optimization. It is not a hodge-podge build of cheap aftermarket parts. Many of the components are hand-made, dyno tested for optimized performance. It started as my Summer car I purchased upon graduation from college that has evolved into it's final state of a highly evolved street legal, potent Road Race-capable machine. I have been a driving instructor for several clubs over the years including Porsche, BMW and Shelby. While the miles are 90-95% street, I have most enjoyed the track time over the years. It has been so enjoyable to load the track tires in the car, drive to a track a few hours away and often be the fastest car, including all of the other instructors. The most fun has been driving while matched with a comparable driver and vehicle. Some of the most fun matches have included other instructor's in their cars such as a modified 2003 BMW M3 and a modified Porsche 911 4S. People were always so shocked that I was able to catch them in the corners, not typical behavior of a Fox Mustang! Many were also disappointed to learn that the rumors of my car being supercharged were not true! How could a naturally aspirated Fox Mustang that drove here with the A/C on be so quick around the track? The secret is it is also easy to drive at the limit. You can shift mid-corner no problem! The tire temps are quite even all around but I still do a diagonal rotation for good measure. My single favorite memory was at Grattan where they flew Lamborghini's lead test driver, Valentino Balboni in to celebrate the opening of a new dealership for several select Lamborghini customers. While I was fortunate to instruct for this event, meeting Valentino was great honor. He's a super nice guy as well. I went for a ride with him in the provided Gallardo and thoroughly enjoyed myself! Surprisingly, he expressed interest in going for a ride in my Mustang. I conceded after he convinced me that he wasn't joking! During the ride he seemed to be having a great time and was overflowing with heavily expressive comments in a thick Italian accent: "Oh my God, it's amazing!!!" As the other instructors were packing up early, I heard the sound that could only be described as Valentino driving the Gallardo around the track by himself. I took the opportunity to head back out on track behind him. After playing with him, I was able to catch and pass him! That was a special day for sure! Another great memory was Tim Allen pulling me over and asking me all about my car. He lived near me at the time and had seen me driving in the area. He later drove my car at 90 mph through his residential subdivision with me crouching down out of sight in the passenger seat! Needless to say, I was later hassled by many of his neighbors.... Worth it for sure! My Mustang and I have also designed and developed many products together over the years including: Steeda 5-Link, Steeda X-2 Ball Joint, Ford M-2300-K and X brake kits, 2000 Cobra-R brakes and the Vintage Venom 14" brake conversion package. We have learned a lot over the years and I hope she will find a new home where the enthusiasm will continue and new memories will be created. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
