Relisted - price reduction!! For sale by ORIGINAL OWNER: 1981 Honda CBX This may be the ONLY "Original Owner" CBX for sale anywhere. I purchased this incredible piece of motorcycling history from Boone Honda in April, 1983. It had been sitting on the showroom floor from new, and I got a great deal from Glen Bare, the owner of the dealership, when I finally could afford to purchase this beautiful bike. I have ridden it as far as Nebraska, down to Florida for Daytona Bike Week, attended numerous Rider rallies, participated in the Keith Code Superbike School program at Road Atlanta and, of course, ridden it extensively on the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is local for me. I am an experienced (77 years old) rider who had an unfortunate fall (not on the bike!) two years ago resulting in injuries that preclude me from further riding. The bike is up-to-date on inspections and licensing requirements, and is started regularly in my garage, where it is kept covered, with battery-tender attached and Sta-bil in the gas tank. It is inspected and licensed every April. From Cycle magazine: "The objective - to build the fastest production motorcycle anywhere in the world - has been met. The bike is more than fast; it is magic. The exploding glitter of its technical credentials lights up the sky." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some specs from Cycle magazine's test of the 1981 CBX (included in the materials that accompany the motorcycle): Make and model.......................................................................Honda CBXPrice, suggested retail (as of 2/9/81)...............................................$5995 PERFORMANCEStanding start 1/4 mile.......................................................12.02 @ 111.52Engine rpm @ 60 mph, top gear..........................................................4244Average fuel consumption rate................................41.8 mpg (17.7 km/l)Cruising range, main/reserve......................................................209/33.4Load capacity (GVWR less curb weight)...................183.7 kg (405.1 lbs)Maximum speed in gears @ engine redline.................................(1) 57.2, (2) 79.7, (3) 100.2, (4) 116.2, (5) 134.4 ENGINEType.................................Four-stroke, in-line six, air-cooled, 24 valve, with dual overhead camshafts, chain-driven------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As noted, I have some extensive written materials that will accompany this beautiful bike. As a long-time member (#2316) of the ICOA (International CBX Owner's Association), I have saved my publications (CBXpress magazines from 1990) and others pertaining to the CBX; they will be included with the purchase. I also have (shown in the pictures) a set of German HARRO leathers (jacket and pants), as well as an Arai helmet in CBX colors with appropriate CBX decals that will be included in the sale. I purchased the leathers in Munich, Germany, and they are in fine condition. The technician who put this bike together at Boone Honda is the only person to have worked on it, and still maintains the bike for me to this day. What you are bidding on is a unique piece of history that remains a wonderful touring motorcycle that is sure to bring the rider tons of attention anywhere he or she takes it. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase a classic from its original owner. Remember, "they are only original once". Notes: In response to a question from an eBayer on the condition of the bike:1: The bike has been kept in a climate-controlled garage from new. I covered the seat because the sheepskin is MUCH easier on the butt when touring. I purchased the cover at a Rider rally in Kentucky in 1985 and have not taken it off since. It is just too nice. The seat itself should be in as-new condition. 2: There is absolutely no rust on the frame, swing arm, etc. There is a bit of discoloration where battery acid seeped down, but it is almost invisible. 3: The header pipes have normal wear, however there is very little bluing, as I kept it in tune. The brake and clutch cables have all been serviced and they work freely. I start and run it weekly, to keep the carbs from getting gunked.4: This bike is not brand new. It is 36 years old. The paint is very good, but not perfect. The chrome looks great. There is a slight dent in the tank, almost invisible, especially in pictures. It has minor scratches, etc. I have the owner's manual and the original key.
