Vehicle Detail
1953 Mercedes-Benz 300 'Adenauer' sedan - ID# 186.01101365/53 - Schwarz (black) with highly original but distressed beige cloth. A recent California 'Garage Find' - Sitting since 1978 - CA car from the latter '50s forward. Completed on August 4, 1953 - Delivered new on September 3, 19531 of 1,776 300 Sedans constructed in 1953.Currently titled with the engine number as was the practice in period. An essentially unaltered original early 300 - Matching number original engine - Factory 'Golde' sliding steel sunroof. Was originally equipped with fitted luggage which has disappeared. Mileage unknown - ODO shows 69,717 KM Not running - Engine turns - Virtually unused period bias ply spare tire.Original jack/lug wrench and centering bar. This 300 has never been apart and retains the integrity of its original construction.Misc. service stickers from 1963 - Original handbook - Misc, ephemera from '60s and early '70s.All seats fitted with covers except rear cushion (cover included). Removing the rear seat cushion revealed acceptable original cloth.Original front floor rubber mats. Inspecting the original front seat trim underneath the covers revealed highly distressed cloth. Original carpets - Misc. trim replacement on door panels - Original headliner - Original package panel trimFully original dash wood, switch gear and radio. In the realm of Adenauers, this car is essentially rust free.Only weak areas appear to be two short sections of the left longitudinal.Trunk floor, floor panels, wheel arches etc. are solid - All jack points are solid as wellAll chrome is uniformly pitted - All painted surfaces are distressed.I estimate about 30% original paint remains based on infrared depth readings.Excellent panel fit and door gaps with the exception of lr door to left fender edge due to a crude fender repair. Excellent door closure - All door handles function - Missing hood ornament - Original Bosch headlight trim. Solid sills - All 4 original side widow vent windows intact.Harvard alumni badge adjacent to the rear black/yellow CA license plate.
