Vehicle Detail
LA barn find in 2014. Family project car renovated in 2015 The vehicle was in rough condition but unmolested. It included all the original chrome trim, dog dish hubcaps, front grill, chrome bumpers, etc. Dash has not been cut and original instrumentation was in place including AM radio (not functioning). Rust was limited to rear quarter panels and rear floorboard on passenger side. Quarters have been cleaned up but not replaced. This is an original 225 Slant-Six with three-speed manual column shift. Work completed on the vehicle in the past year includes: The original block was machined and rebuilt. New pistons from Sealed Power .080 over with Hastings Rings. These are standard compression pistons that utilize factory rods and permit standard pump gas. Custom 244 street grind cam produced by Elgin with .435 lift and 112* duration that was supplied by Doug Dutra. Dutra Dual exhaust purchased new from Doug Dutra with single collector exhaust. A Holly 390CFM 4-barrel carburetor provides fuel to this arrangement. Switching from the original 1-barrel carb required a change from the solid rod linkage to cable assembly with the installation of a new pedal assembly from a later model V-8. Vehicle has new clutch assembly but retains the factory manual 3 speed transmission. Suspension was completely gone through at the same time. This includes Ball joints, Tie rods, Lower and upper control arm bearings. New shocks, rear leaf springs and new idler arm. Brake system has been updated including new master cylinder, new drums, cylinder kits and shoes. This is a 4-wheel drum system with manual brakes. The left-handed studs have been replaced to contemporary right handed setup. Yes, I know manual brakes all the way around but the car only weighs in at 2700lbs. New gas tank and sending unit. Original radiator was flushed and inspected and determined ready to go. Rear axle seals replaced. Interior work includes replacement of the original front bench seat. New bench seat from donor Chevy El Camino. Original rear bench has been reupholstered to match. New carpet kit. Replaced Heater Core. Instrument cluster includes new Speedometer from donor Dart which still requires hook-up. 70,000 miles noted on odometer but actual mileage for this vehicle is unknown. New defroster vent grills and new dash pad shell covers the original. Arm rests have been replaced and installed as needed. Original door hardware came with the car. Electrical system has been gone through and repaired or replaced as needed. Dome light functions, Door pin switches have been replaced. Front speaker has been replaced and rear deck speakers are present and wired. No stereo at this time but wiring is in place to accommodate. Steering column replacement kit installed and turn signal clicks once again and the horn works! Car interior retains original Gold paint and has been touched up as needed. New exterior paint. Every attempt was made to keep this car as original as possible but also make it fun and safe to drive while improving it where possible without getting carried away. Things this car still needs: Speedometer hook-up, Temperature sending unit, could use a new front windshield as the present one has fogging in the corners, installation of rear window trim piece (I have it but the clips need updating) and some nice fat tires ( I have a set of Aluminum Slot rims that will be included)..Oh and some tunes (radio or just a simple amplifier and jack for input) This was a father/son project that is 90% complete. Selling the vehicle as my son is now going off to college and needs something more practical (ie. better efficiency at highway speed).. The Dart is fun to drive around town and locally but with the 3spd tranny top end is limited. The car is very light and the upgraded slant 6 provides plenty of power.
