Vehicle Detail
We've owned this 190sl for 29 years but due to loss it hasn't been driven since June 2009.It always was a great source of pride and enthusiasm. We loved going to car shows near and far and even won a few trophies. But as lifes changes present themselves one must adapt and unfortunately at this stage in life keeping it is not an option. I can tell you it always had the utmost care being serviced meticulously. He did most of the work himself but had the help of very good friend who worked on Mercedes in Germany in the 60's but has since passed as well. It has been stored under cover in the garage until a few days ago when taken out for the pictures. The engine turns freely but from not being driven will need the gas tank drained and fresh gas, carburetors cleaned and the customary tune up. It had no issues when parked and ran very well. Having never being painted during our ownership the paint is old and if you look close it shows some imperfections due to age such as crazing and a few scratches described in detail. The drivers door has a 4 inch area of crazing in the paint at the top vertical curved section of opening directly in front of mirror. Also in front of the passenger side mirror on the fender an area of 3 inches of deep scratches . In addition the lower section of the passenger door has some rust bubbling under the paint that hasn't pierced through it's 2 inches tall and 7 inches long but because it's black not having pierced the paint it's very difficult to capture in pictures we tried to no avail. There is a few light scratches near the passenger side chrome stone guard and a larger scratch that's an inch and 1/2 on the lip where the hood closes on passenger side none of them have been touched up. Also directly above the grill star at 1:00 there's a 1/4 inch crease that's been there for years it too hasn't pierced the paint and is not touched up. I can honestly say none of these areas draw your attention and the pictures represent how it appears in person accurately. There aren't any other dings or dents other than these including any that have been repaired. The leather seats are in fine condition with a small 4 inch area of piping missing both are firm with light general wear, they are the originals without ever having covers replaced. Carpet, leather dash , interior chrome gauge bezels , upper and lower chrome dash moldings, heat vents and levers, horn ring and window crank are all excellent , but the leather on the ash tray and below the gauges is faded. We just had to patch the convertible top in three spots temporarily with gorilla tape because it started to split , the rear window is yellowed and started to split from the top in one spot of 4 inches. The top frame itself is fluid going up and down fine and both tensioners and end caps are excellent without any chrome pitting, the scissors are clean too without any pitting. Both doors open and close nicely with good gaps, windows work as should (no wobble; bakelite guides being in good shape), windshield rubber base and surround gaskets are supple , we found both NOS door gaskets in the MB wrapper so put them on. Hardtop is nice but looks as if some the chrome molding might have been scraped a little at each corner approx 4 inches, inner chrome trim around windows is nice and shines, headliner is without any rips or tears with clean fabric, below the window there's a 3 inch high red leather strip that needs replacing from age also the red leather convertible boot is stiff from age but could possibly be worked with to still be useful with some slight wet stretching . If the weather was warmer it could possibly fit better but considering the 20 degree temperature it was hard to get it on the snaps. The tonneau cover is excellent. All the outside chrome including both moldings on door tops , rockers moldings, fender eyebrows, stone guards , windshield frame inside and out, grill, star and barrel and surround, joint covers, both mirrors, door handles, wiper arms, and bumpers with guards are in excellent condition with the exception of the right rear bumper that has a small area of light pitting shown in a seperate picture. We can't find the key to the locking gas cap. We tried our best but without the use of a lift the undercarriage is very hard to get good pictures. The floors look very clean and solid we don't see any weak areas , the torsion bars and trunk floor, gas tank and both spare tire wells look very clean and solid.Be sure to scroll to the end of the description for more pictures that can be supersized that were posted from a different site and couldn't be included with the rest because ebay only allows 24. We can offer assistance with loading and facilitating transport details if needed also can offer shipping quotes with the help of an old friend whose been collecting classic cars for 60 years and has references for companies he's used that are reliable, care oriented and reasonable most of which are small independents. If it can't be picked up right away it can stay in the garage for an agreed time. $500- non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of auctions end and balance due with seven days. thank you On Jan-19-17 at 17:42:40 PST, seller added the following information: We've owned this 190sl for 29 years but due to loss it hasn't been driven since June 2009.It always was a great source of pride and enthusiasm.
