In 2013 I traded this car for some carpentry work . I always wanted a 58 auto because that was the year I was born. With just about all brands of autos 1958 was a 1 year design, and that is why they are so expensive. The vision I had for this car was a flat black ratrod with black side pipes and red cherry bomb mufflers. It is a base version of Fords 2 door wagon. The high end version is called the Del Rio. This car has sat since 1972 . It was owned by the grandfather of the man I got it from, he also said that he never seen his grandfather wash a car, and it looks like that is the case with this car. Here in Indians we use a lot of salt, and in the 40 plus years that it sat in his garage it became a pile of rust. The frame appears to be solid, but the rest of the car is almost ,but not quite beyond restoration. The clam shell tailgate works as it should. I did find replacement panels and rockers for it. The fairlane patch panels for the wheel wells will fit. Many Ranchero and fairlane parts are interchangeable with this car. The stainless is all there and in good shape, and the bumpers are solid enough for rechrome . As is the rear tail light housings. It has a 332 big block with a 2 barrel that is locked up. It was running when parked, and I was told that it was started every other week for 2 years. Why they stopped doing that he did not know. The man was a young boy then and did not have an interest in it. The brake pedal goes to the floor, and the fuel system will have to be cleaned. The transmission is a 3 on the tree and shifts through the gears. It rolls easily. I put a battery in it and the electric system seemed to be working. It has 3 of the original rims. The red one is a little bit narrower. Tires are lot roll arounds and hold air. No hubcaps, that is the only thing missing on this car. Interior is very usable and in pretty good shape, except the dash, which has collapsed. Windows are good and work as they should. A star crack is in the windshield from a stone. It is small and can be filled and repaired. The head liner is a very cool tan tweed design and is all there. Besides a stain on the right front side it is in good shape. All guages are present as is the radio and clock. I have seen a 58 clock go for 450.00 on ebay, and they did not even know if it worked! Interior parts have a high value as they to are interchangeable with other fords of this year. The floor boards were patched by grand pa and could be used as is, for a rat. If you are so inclined, you could part it out and make a couple thousand pretty easy. I just don't do that to vintage cars no matter the condition. I am having a little bit of trouble with the title. Title is pending. It is from 1961 and it is signed, but not dated because where you put the date it says 19_____ not 20_____ and I think it might need notorized. Going to the BMV on Tue. To see if I can fix it. If not it will be sold with a bill of sale. If restored it could be worth as much as 30,00 dollars. As a ratrod , between 2 to 6 thousand.
