Vehicle Detail

Selling my 1978 Datsun 280z 2+2. This is an all original car with 76,000 miles. It is a rust free car that has recently been repainted with the original color of 240-Racing Green. It is a two owner car that was originally purchased on 7-19-78 from Bob Sharp Motors in Wilton Connecticut. It was equipped with air conditioning, Kendallkote undercoating and side molding. I am the second owner and took the car in two years ago on a trade. I thought it was going to be an easy and painless hobby to get the car running again. Since it sat in the original owners garage for three years not running, I was wrong. After towing the car directly to a friends body shop it sat for another year before he finally stripped it and repainted. The body was straight but had the typical rust holes on the rocker panels. He welded in new metal and fixed one small dent the size of a golf ball on one of the doors. The car was then painted with the original Racing Green paint to keep it as it was off the assembly line. After paint it went to have the gas tank pulled and rebuilt. At the same time the brake lines, brakes, spark plugs, master cylinder, gas line, fuel pump and battery were replaced. From there it was sent to a foreign car mechanic. It was worked on for a couple of months getting the car up and running. The mechanic replaced the temperature sensor, air flow meter, water pump and coolant, VC gasket, oil pressure switch, battery and tires. I finally got it back after almost two years. During this time I realized that I am not a Z-car fan. I drove this little gem a half dozen times and put just under 50 miles on her. She drives smooth but I'm spoiled with new car taste. I thought I would like to drive it on the weekends to the winery but still favor the new Jeep Wrangler with the top and doors off. Therefore it is time to send her off to the next owner that wants this fun little car. I have invested over $10,000 into getting her back to normal. There are a few things that need to be fixed. The passenger side window crank is cracked. It is operable but the knob broke off and half of the handle is gone. The headliner is falling but is an easy fix. The blower motor for the heat and a/c just went out. It could just be a fuse. I will try to fix before selling but will not guarantee a fix. Also the back bumper is pitting. The front bumper is perfect the for some reason the back one is pitting. I would rate this car a solid 8.5 or 9. I feel for a 38 year old car it shows better than most. I took it to a Z-car show over the summer and had everyone telling me how awesome the car was. It really shows like original. I understand most buyers want a car they can drop a V-8 in, lower and put some fat tires on. This is just the opposite. She looks like a little Jaguar. Very classy and more of a touring vehicle. I have posted the car earlier in the year on E-bay and it did not reach my reserve of $9,000. It did however reach over $8,000. I am dropping my reserve by thousands to sell it. I need the space in the garage for over the winter so good luck bidding. Any questions you can reach me at (314)575-3949. I will not ship over seas. I will assist in shipping to the U.S. Shipping charges are on you. Thank you for viewing my ad. Best of luck, Kevin
