Vehicle Detail

1979 Pontiac Firebird "Red Bird" with a Shaker hood selling at "No Reserve" I recently purchased this 1979 Pontiac Firebird "Red Bird" with the TransAm Shaker hood from a gentleman in Tigerton, Wisconsin who had it stored in his barn for the past 12 years. The Firebird was purchased new from Tusler Motor Company, Inc. located at 1303 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Appleton, Wisconsin. This car was actually built in September of 1978. This is a true "Red Bird" that I'm fairly certain were only made during a three year span between 1977 through 1979. At some point a past owner added the cool TransAm shaker hood with the Screaming Fire Chicken and shaker. The original flat hood is long gone, but those shouldn't be too challenging to find if the next owner wants a more original look. This is the first time this rare Pontiac has been offered to the public on eBay. They made a very limited production of the Yellow Bird, Sky Bird, and the Red Bird, so the Color Birds as they are known by are getting very hard to find. Especially a true W68 "Red Bird" as verified from the build sheet that I discovered behind the back seat. These rare "Red Birds" were painted Mayan Red from the factory. Some were ordered with the rear spoiler as an option, but I believe this spoiler was installed at the time the TransAm hood was added. If you simply double click on the main picture of the auction page then all 24 pictures will be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures. I will explain everything I found out from the previous owner at the point of purchase and from what I've found out in the short time I've owned this "Red Bird" Firebird. The prior owner was into restoring antique John Deer tractors and was short on the time needed to bring this "Red Bird" back to its former glory. He said he has more than enough work to him busy non-stop for the rest of his life. He was uncertain if this is the original engine that came with this Firebird when it was ordered new. I installed new battery terminal ends and changed the spark plugs. This Firebird starts right up and and has front disc brakes that stop the car well. The interior still looks in relatively nice condition as evident from the pictures with a brand new set of four burgundy carpeted floor mats. The special edition gold dash panel and gold flake sport steering wheel are still in very nice condition. All of the factory seat belts are still in place. The windshield will need to be replaced, but the balance of the glass appears in good condition. The rare match stick lighter still works as it should. There is a Sony AM/FM Cassette Stereo player, but it is not hooked up. The original new car warranty pamphlet and the original owner's manual are included in the glove compartment. The factory options include power steering, power disc brakes, tilt wheel, sport mirrors, bucket seats, console, and air conditioning. The air conditioning compressor is missing, but the majority of the a/c system looks to still be in place. I didn't see any evidence of this car ever being involved in any accidents other then what is visible in the pictures. It seems to me like this is mostly an original paint car. Remember, They only come original once! Basically this car could use a complete restoration, but it appears to be a nice piece to start with. The console has a custom wood grain compartment door. The drivers floor has a small patch, but the rest of the floors and frame look to be all original and in good condition in my opinion. I believe the reason this Bird stayed in this condition is because it was ordered from the factory with Ziebart rust proofing. That yellow decal can be seen under the manufacturer's safety standard decal with a Ziebart plug in the picture of the drivers door jamb. The trunk floor is also in good condition with a jack and crow bar. There are only three of the original red alloy Snowflake Honeycomb wheels, so the winning bidder will have to locate a fourth wheel to make this "Red Bird" look complete. The current odometer reading is just over 21,000 miles, but believed to have rolled over. The majority of states on all vehicles over 10 years old do not show the mileage on fresh titles nowadays. I'm selling this Firebird with an open, clean, and clear title in my name that has the odometer reading as exempt on the current title that was issued in the State of Wisconsin. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on-line has the 1979 Pontiac Firebird with the "Red Bird" option, and the 350V8 with air conditioning valued at $18,590 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $12,350 in average condition, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! Nada has the lowest condition value at $7,181 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. The numbers don't lie! This True "Red Bird" is a very valuable automobile if restored properly! These second generation 1970-81 Firebird's have consistently shown to escalate in value with each quarter. What you see is exactly what you get! This is a great car for a father and son project to bond as a family unit. Why not make your money work for you while your son learns how to work on cars. It would also be a great candidate for "Ah Oh" "Better get Maaco" !!! They are running a summer special right now. I tried to describe all of the pertinent information, so any potential bidder can make the most informed decision possible before placing their bid. If there is anything else you feel that may have been missed, please ask any questions you like. They will all be answered in a timely fashion. This Cool "Red Bird" Firebird is being offered at "No Reserve" on a quick 5-day auction ending Sunday evening at 8:00pm Eastern time, 7:00pm Central time, and 5:00pm Pacific time. The PayPal deposit is to be paid within 24 hours, and the balance wire transferred within 72 hours. This is a prime opportunity to pick up your sweet dream muscle car and be the hit at the local car shows in your area by next summer. Thank You for taking the time to view this auction! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!! I tried to describe everything to the best of my ability. The condition of this 37 year old classic sports car is viewed through my opinion and should be construed as subjective as is the case with all pre-owned vehicles. It is to be assumed that all used vehicles have some degree of wear and tear. Therefore, I assume no responsibility for any errors in my description. I try to be as accurate as possible, but I will not be held liable for anything said in this description. This "Red Bird" is being sold as is where is with no warranties expressed or implied. Thank you!
