I added Martin to my collection several months ago. I do have the perfect Carafx report showing one owner and absolutely no negative history. I purchased him from the Chrysler-Jeep dealer here in Oregon where the original owner traded in. Although most of my collection consists of vintage cars and trucks I also have a soft spot for other rare and unique vehicles. This little Cherokee grabbed my attention right away. If I hadn't just purchased a mint condition 4Runner, I would never sell Martin. One amazing SUV is enough for me. This Jeep is in wonderful shape. Well maintained and cared for since new. The original paint and interior are in excellent condition. No accidents and never damaged in any way. No dents or ugly defects to mention. Within the photo display I document the minor imperfections that can be found under close scrutiny (there are very few). The exterior finish still shines brightly and the insides have been kept clean at all times. No off-road abuse or neglect has ever occurred. Once you start scrolling through the pictures you'll understand the incredible condition. At 170,000 miles, Martin is running just like he should. No ticks, misses or abnormal noises of any kind. Starts immediately and power is crisp and smooth. The transmission and running-gear are operating perfectly. The transfer case has 2H, 4H, N and 4 low. All engage correctly in every range. All switches, knobs and equipment are functioning properly. The power windows and door locks work as they should. The air conditioning is freezing cold. This Jeep runs and drives excellent. No rattles, clunks or vibrations. I'm the kind of person that can't leave things alone. I put my personal touches on this Cherokee. I purchased the new Yakima Safari basket and I also installed brand new wheels and tires. I insist on having a one-of-a-kind look. These XJ Cherokees are rarely found in this condition. Most of these Jeeps experienced hard use and modifications from the younger crowd that enjoys crawling over rocks and seeing how deep of a mud hole they can drive through. Martin has always been loved. Street use only! Simply put, this is one of the best examples you will find. I will make a few brief comments under certain pictures throughout the photo display. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable over the years as I've sold members of my collection. I'm grateful for the kind words and compliments I've received. My opinions have guided me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and observations and they may differ from your own. I took every picture you're about to see in my driveway at home the day before this auction started. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. I have owned and collected several very nice Cherokees of this vintage. None compare to Martin. This is the lower inner lip on the tailgate hatch. Not really a flaw but there is a tiny bit of corrosion where the hatch rest against the rubber seal. A couple of swipes with a wire brush would remove. During the photo session was the first time I noticed it. Very minor. My Jeep has NO rust issues. One rock chip in the factory original windshield. It has been repaired to prevent spreading. Last blemish to document- Bird poop was allowed to sit on the hood many years ago. Bird crap can be like acid if not removed quickly. Not sure what this large birds diet was but it tarnished the finish in this very small spot. I magnified this photo to better show the flaw. In person you have to look for it. I also installed the fog lights. They look like the factory put them there. The switch inside looks factory too. Bumpers, grille and original fender flares look almost new. No fading or discoloration of any kind. The rims and tires are brand new with less than 100 miles on them. They are 16 inch with 235-70-16 All Terrain Tires. Factory size is 15 inch. This package fits and looks perfect. There is no lift or suspension alterations. Never repainted. This is the factory applied finish and has held up beautifully. As stated previously, there are no dents, ugly scratches or dings to mention. Paint and body are 100% original and in impressive shape. Even with the Yakima rack installed I can still park in my standard height garage. I took every picture here at home. The interior is in great condition. Even the original carpet and 18 year old floor mats show only very light wear on the drivers side. Everything else in the interior is near perfection. And, NEVER smoked in. Even the drivers seat is excellent. Not stained or soiled at all. The rear seat appears to have rarely, if ever, been used. Headliner is like new front to back. I replaced the hatch lift supports. The 4.0 liter in-line 6 cylinder runs exactly like it should. No exhaust manifold leaks or noises of any kind. Great power in all ranges whether in town or on the highway at 70mph. The entire engine compartment is extremely clean. Yes, the engine bay lights works. I unplugged it for these photos. The undersides are what we hope to find. No cancer or rust issues. On close inspection while taking these undercarriage photos I did see typical light seepage grime on some components but nothing out of the ordinary or worth concern. I've been under here and everything looks really good. I'm hoping that my appreciation for this little Jeep is contagious and that your impression is fully formed by now. It is in wonderful condition and more than worthy of sitting next to the other members of my collection.
