Had Tune up less than 60 days ago...spark plugs, oil, transmission, brake fluid and steering Newly installed rebuilt radiator New transmission line Straight 6 engine runs strong with absolutely no oil leaks...oil burns slow and even Clean title, never been in an accident and the Carfax report graded this vehicle in the top percentile for Jeeps (1997). Carfax report looks clean and clear. PROBLEMS WITH THE JEEP: I have the Clean Title / ownership certificate. Registration expired in December 2015 and is currently late. In Dec '15 I took her to the auto shop to test for its biannual emissions certificate. She failed the smog test and I simply do not have the cash to fix it. I can supply all the test results. The jeep failed smog because : MIL/Check Engine Light was on….Although it has since turned off and stayed off. The mechanics diagnosis of check engine light was: cylinders 4 & 5 misfire detected. The car runs fine and as of yet, has NEVER let me down. It has never broken down and I have never been left on the side of the road. She really has been a champ to me. I have experienced a handful of incidents of the engine stalling at highway speeds. Jeep will recall to reprogram automatic transmission software in Jeeps equipped with the 4.7 liter engine; which involves computer software in the automatic transmission control module of the Grand Cherokee Laredo. In a limited action, Chrysler recalling Jeep Grand Cherokees to repair the stalling problem in the vehicles. In that recall, NHTSA reported that the the front control module may have been incorrectly manufactured, " and could cause the engine to stall while driving or not start. Headliner is loose. Small leak in coolant reservoir: I fill it up with water about once every two weeks, more often when it’s hot out. Coolant sensor isn't working but it's not serious. My mechanic explained it "like a hangnail. It keeps reminding you it needs to come out (via the information center) but it won't hurt anything while its there". Intermittent electrical short circuit in display screen lighting and radio display. Radio works fine. Speakers suck. Mechanic checked out the electrical circuit and said that the wires are simply old and are wearing out. I tested all fuses inside the cab and also in the engine and all fuses are now up to date and functioning properly. Vehicle Information Center with Traveler/Mini Trip Computer...this display goes blank screen now and then. Driver left side view mirror is cracked but I've been driving with it like that for two years....
