Vehicle Detail
1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel. The body of the car is in pretty good shape. The only bad rust is by the rear drivers side tire, as seen in the picture. The carpet was removed before I got the car. Water does come in when it rains. The floors are solid. The upholstery is worn out and has seat covers. The sun visors are removed and need repair. The dashboard cover has cracks. The instrument cluster works except for the clock. All of the lights work, although the back-up lights sometimes do not depending on what mood the transmission switch is in. The engine is the biggest problem. It has started burning coolant. The engine cranks, runs, and sounds good, but when it gets up to temperature, the exhaust starts steaming. It stops when you release the pressure from the overflow tank. The 4-spd transmission shifts well, but grinds a little going into 2nd gear when it is cold outside. The car drives well going down the road, other than it will looks like a mosquito fogging vehicle after warming up. The tires have about 10K miles on them. Power brakes and manual steering. No AC. Simple car. I used to drive this car about 70 miles a day for 5+ years and it has been great. The fuel economy was 40+ MPG driving the roads I was on, but I have since moved really close to work, and don't need the great fuel economy anymore. I would fix the engine and keep it if I had to drive a lot, but I can drive my truck the short distance for very little now. The insurance costs more than what I save in fuel, and I don't need the extra vehicle. This can be a great car to fix for someone who needs a low-cost commuting car. I don't recommend driving it the way the engine is now, so bring a trailer or a wrecker to pick it up. The engine will start and run, so it can be moved around. Hopefully this is the car you are looking for! The car is for local pick-up only. Deposit is to be paid with Pay-Pal, and the balance with cash at pick-up. Thank you for looking.
