Vehicle Detail

1986 Volkswagen Quantum Syncro Station-Wagon QSW All wheel drive - gas 2.2 5 cylinder engine - 5 speed manual Transmission ( driveline is from Audi 4000s from the factory ) Odometer reads 207k Power windows - Central locking ( does not currently work ) Sunroof ( litte cranky and the seal is bad ) Brand new Snow tires - with Mk3 Flier Rims Powder coated red ( i have a shop full of rims and kept getting my snow tires confused so i powdered coated 2 sets of rims and installed snow tires so i can easily tell which are my snow tires ) The snow tires have 50 miles on them. They are like new. Has aftermarket Alpine Cd player - with AUX plug in the dash for audio ( its been a project , the stereo - the aux plug works sometimes and not others ) Has aftermarket Polk speakers in the door and in the rear cargo area. There is Amp Power wire and alpine Ai-Net cable ran to under the back seat ( not hooked up ) Ac system is complete and i was told it worked by previous owner - when i went to use it , it was not blowing COLD - so maybe a recharge is in order. Sunroof - opens and closes but its very touchy and doesnt like to shut tight - the seal is coming off and it has leaked a few times when i have not got it tight. There are some sunroof parts included in the back of the quantum ( came with it when i bought it ) so those might fix it. Has the rare hard to find - rear fold up cargo cover - ( there is a picture of it ) It also has roof rack rails ( been removed but are included ) My BASKET on the roof is NOT INCLUDED - i will remove it when / if it sells. This is my 4th Quantum Syncro - and the best one i have had. I have registered and insure 4 cars and i just only drive this when it snows. Which has only been twice so far this winter and i decided its time to let someone else enjoy it and get some good off-road - syncro / quattro use out of it. We just got 8-10 inches of snow last week. This BEAST of an awesome VW machine - would not be denied. No automatic Traction control like my wifes Tiquan - this thing just goes through it like the snow is not even there. I almost forgot to mention - the locking front and rear diff locks work - the light in the center console light up when activated ( by vacuum ) I loaded up 5 neighbor kids and 6/7 sleds and we went sledding for a school snow day last week - when others in our circle could not get out of their own driveways. Has cruise control - i do not know if it works - drove it back and forth to omaha a few times but i dont remember if it works. Paint is Awesome - there is no RUST ( rot ) only spot is rear passenger window on the bottom there is some bubbling around the seal. ( i took picture ) the undercarriage - floor - is AWESOME - when i swapped out these wheel i could not BELIEVE how clean the suspension and stuff was under the car. With 200k - this car has ALOT of life left in it - i have a folder full of receipts / maintenance records. ( i need to look for them , i know i have them just not sure where i put them ) As i was loading pictures i forgot to mention it has a custom PIRATE SKULL - headliner - Its a bunch of little black / white SKULL / CROSSBONES My wife left with her phone and the picture i took is on there - i will try to add it later. The sunroof cover itself it pictures and removed ( trying to diagnose the touchy sunroof ) All the power windows work The exhaust is the most awesome sounding VW exhaust i have ever heard - its an awesome GROWL ( on purpose ) KNOWN ISSUES: Sunroof - as mentioned before. Central locking does not work - it did when i bought it - then i replaced a broken driver side door handle and now it does not work. The coolant light - flashes - if / when you top off the over flow container - to the " max " line - it wont blink - but after a day or so it gets about an inch lower than that max fill line and the light continues to flash but it never " empties " the over flow - and has never been overheated in my possession - not sure if the sensor is bad or if there i small crack in the bottle. I just stare at the blinking light and drive it through the snow. The instrument cluster - light at night on the right side ( tach side ) does not light up. Also when i did the stereo install i must of forgot to put the screws in the top of the cluster to hold it in place as it will rock back and forth - getting that alpine stereo to squeeze in there with all the wires behind it was a CHORE. There are like 5 keys - the door , is not the same as the ignition. There is a duplicate of both - then plus a few. Never could get a key to work in hatch lock - but when the central locking was working - it would LOCK the hatch. passenger side front outer door handle is " hard " to open at times. ( squeeze then pull ) I bought this Quantum from another VW Enthusiast in Kansas City back in August. He owned it for 4-5 years. He bought it from an enthusiast in Florida - who has a pretty details build thread on the VWVORTEX - He painted it - fixed it up. Then sold it on ebay to Eric ( guy in KC ) If you message me I can send you a link to his build thread. Sold AS IS WHERE IS Lincoln Nebraska 68516 Shipping is the buyers responsibility ( and at buyers expense ) Title will be released when fund clear. $500 deposit due after auction - balance is due in cash when car is picked up. Fee's may apply if you choose to pay balance with Paypal. 402-671-0355 - TEXT IS BEST - i am pretty upfront and honest guy ( if i dont say so myself ) i am a Vw Enthusiast with a long history of cool old Volkswagen coming and going through out my life. Please DO NOT Waste my time. Look up shipping quotes before contacting via phone to know how much it is going to cost to ship this car if you are unable to drive it back to where ever you live. ( which i would not hesitate to drive this car across the country ) get in and GO.. Years ago - I sold a Quantum Syncro Wagon - The Automotive website Jalopnik did a feature on the car ( not this one but one just like it ) I am going to copy paste his " description " of these cars as its a great write up on these awesome - getting hard to find All Wheel Drive Beasts.... The B2 edition of VW's ‘big car' grew in both dimension and nomenclature - the previous, and smaller, B1- Dasher (U.S.) and Passat (Everybody Else), becoming the Quantum here, and Passat/Santana elsewhere. Over its life it also went by Corsar, and Caret, and enough other names that you might not be surprised finding it floating face down in the Mediterranean with two bullet holes in its roof. Bodystyles expanded over the B1 too, the Santana being a new three-box trunked version of the humpback whale of a Passat 5-door. By the time this ‘86 was built the Quantum had received its mid-life crisis refresh and - in wagon form - had been re-engineered to accept the Audi 80's all wheel drive system, although it was branded with the VW Syncro name. The changes required to make the Variant a Syncro included the addition of a center tunnel to house the drive shaft, re-location of the gas tank, and the removal of the under-floor spare. Gained back was all-weather traction and the claim of ownership of Audi's Quattro driveline for people who couldn't bring themselves to buy that upscale brand. This particular Quantum sports Audi's 2.2-litre 5 cylinder engine, which produced 113-bhp and hangs out over the front wheels like a pendulous schlong. That company's longitudinal five-speed manual gearbox is also along for the ride, while behind that, all four wheels get a workout, no slacking here. Now, you might ask yourself, if it has an Audi engine, an Audi transmission, and an Audi driveline, why the hell wouldn't I just buy an Audi? Well, one reason is that Audi, being too busy dropping Quattro badges on everything and defending themselves from trumped up unintended acceleration charges, didn't have time to sell an Avant edition of their 80/90 cars back in the day - leaving the Quantum to fill the gap until the arrival of the B4 A4 in '91. It was an odd exclusion on Audi's part, as the earlier 80/Fox model did do the long-roof thing.
