Vehicle Detail
2001 Jaguar XKR convertible with only 40,700 miles! This is a southern car (Arkansas) so it is absolutely rust free! This car has been well cared for, interior is excellent, no rips, tears or stains. Fully equipped with navigation, back up sensors, seat heaters, list goes on and on, too much to continue! The leather is still soft and supple, soft top looks nearly new, wheels are free of any rash, even the engine compartment is spotless. Everything works, A/C blows cold, soft top goes up and down as it should, overall this Jaguar is in amazing shape. A little background on this car and myself. I am a car fanatic and decided a few years ago I was going to try to buy some investment cars, I was focusing on future classics. I have a friend who is a car dealer and lets me use his buyer number to purchase cars at auction. Typically I look for clean, low mileage, potentially collectible cars to just hold on to in hopes they increase in value and this one fit the bill. In fact just last March Hagerty published an article confirming my belief in the potential of the XKR, it was entitled: "Snap Them Up Now: Five overlooked modern collectibles" In this article they say: "Here are a handful of cars that haven’t yet reached their milestone birthday but we believe are worthy of collector status today." About the XK8/XKR "A couple of years later, a supercharged version was added and called XKR. Though no manual transmission was ever offered, these were all smooth and sporting grand touring cars with beautiful leather and wood-lined interiors in the classic Jaguar vein. Now nearing 20 years of age, the earliest examples are in the “just a used car” pricing category but we don’t expect them to stay there long. Even the base model came standard with 290 horsepower and a 5-speed automatic transmission and was based on a platform shared with (then) Ford stable-mate Aston Martin." Ok, now back to the car. I bought this car several years ago at a wholesale auction, it had changed hands from one dealer to another several times which brought suspicion. At these auctions you usually can't start or drive the cars but the condition of this car was so nice I decided to take a chance and bid on it, for collectibility it was just what I was looking for. I ended up getting the car and after starting it realized the problem, it needed timing chain tensioners. To someone who doesn't know these cars it sounds like major engine damage when you hear a loose timing chain, this was a major relief to me as I knew it was an easy and inexpensive fix. I replaced the chain tensioners with the updated metal versions (early models used plastic which didn't last long) After the chain tensioners were replaced I realized the Super Charger was making some noise so last summer I decided to send it off to The High Speed Lab for a rebuild, $1,000 later I had a fresh Super Charger! (I can send a copy of the invoice if interested) While at the shop getting the Super Charger work done the car was broken in to, in doing so the drivers door and part of the quarter panel were scratched, the window was broken and some trim was damaged, all of this and there was nothing in the car! The damage was repaired, and it looks great now, I am sure it won't disappoint! There have been a few other little issues, mainly due to the fact this car just sits in storage but now everything is working as it should! I know all of this sounds like a lot but realize this is a 15 year old car and besides the break-in damage the chain tensioners and Super Charger are typically replaced around this mileage, consider it a plus this work was already done! My reason for selling is I have found a car I really want to purchase (Audi Quattro Coupe) and need to sell something first (financially and out of room) This Jaguar is the nicest car I have and the one that took the least amount of work to get ready to sell so for this reason only it is the one that has to go. I have only put a few miles on this car since purchasing it but I can say it is a dream to drive, great power but yet still smooth and comfortable as only Jaguar can do! This is a NO RESERVE auction and is starting at a very reasonable price especially for the condition and mileage! These cars are getting harder and harder to find with this kind of mileage, grab this one before the prices go up! If you have any questions or would like more pictures feel free to ask!
