1965 BMW R-Series

Up for auction is a 1965 BMW R27 in its original Dover White. This is not a repaint or restored R27, but a true survivor with only 4,025 original miles. It has, I believe, the original Metzeler made in Germany tires. It comes with the tool kit, owners instruction manual, and all keys for ignition, fork lock, and glove and battery box. It is an all matching numbers bike with engine, frame, and ID tag sharing the same number. The chrome and aluminum including the Weinmann rims are in excellent condition. It runs and rides as it should. Things that may or may not need attention are the headlight which has been changed to a sealed beam and the chrome ring around it has a dent in it. The odometer reset knob is missing and the original magura grips are showing their age. I do have a new pair that will go with the bike. The battery cover had some paint blemishes due to acid so the cover has been painted and as shown by the picture looks original, also the center stand has been painted due to the same thing. The bike, I was told, was used as a Shrinners parade bike and because of this has a hole in the front fender where a bracket which I think held the Shrinners marque. After removing the bracket the hole is exposed. The gas tank is very clean inside and the exterior is in very good condition with two small dents that are hardly noticeable. The pin striping is all original with the stripers initial on the bottom of the tank. Overall for being one of only 50 imported Dover White R27s and over 50 years old it is in excellent condition. It should be a true collectors bike with its originality and interesting history of being imported to the USA with the white color.
