1965 Ford Thunderbird Convertible ID: 5Y85Z141066 300 hp, 390 cu. in. V-8 engine with four-barrel Holley carburetor, three-speed automatic transmission, independent front suspension with upper and lower A-arms and coil springs, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and hydraulic front disc and rear drum brakes. Wheelbase: 113 in. Although the fourth generation Thunderbird was introduced in 1964, some innovations intended for the new model were delayed and did not reach production until 1965. Most notably, front disc brakes became standard, as did the dramatic sequential rear turn signals. Properly restored in Code J Rangoon Red with matching upholstery, this Thunderbird is one of the top-shelf Fords from the collection. It was restored in 2006 to concours quality inside and out, including a full undercarriage rebuilt with new shocks and springs in the front and rear. The 390 engine was rebuilt during the process. Body and panel fit were exacted to high standards, with an exquisite paint finish. The fully automatic white convertible top stows away into the reverse opening trunk, which allows for placement of the added fiberglass roadster boot. Other features include a swing away steering wheel, front disc brakes, power steering, a sequential turn signal, and Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. This example is ready for AACA judging. Purchased by the former owner of the Houston Rocket in 2007 at Barrett Jackson Scottdale 2007 Lot # 1542. This car was maintained to a very high standard during that term of ownership and shows absolutely beautifully for a 9 year old restoration. The current owner of this beautiful automobile is also an avid collector and purchased this car in 2012 at a RM Auction. It has been very well maintained and always garage and shown at his climate controlled private museum in New Jersey. This vehicle runs and drives beautifully and all of the power options function 100%. I personally drove this vehicle approximately 25 miles this week and it runs and drives as nice as it looks.
