Vehicle Detail
Hi!I'm selling my 1969 postal Jeep. It's a sad day, but I'm moving and can't afford to take it with me. If you're looking for a daily driver, this isn't your car. If you're looking for something that needs and gives lots of love and will get you interested looks at stop lights, this Jeep is absolutely for you! "Newman," as he's become known among my friends, is a 1969 DJ5A Postal Jeep. They have the same drive train as a 4 cylinder Chevelle. So it has a beast of a 4 cylinder engine and an automatic transmission. Because these weren't made for off roading, it only has 2wd. I absolutely love this Jeep, and I hope you will too. I've put a lot of work into Newman. I ripped out the original interior and put in two seats. The door handles for this year model are impossible to find, so I just took the doors off -- It's a Jeep, not a Cadillac. Jeeps need doors like trees need gasoline. The heater core and radiator sprung leaks a while back, so I put a radiator from a passport in it and just bypassed the heater. Heaters don't do much good without doors, anyway. It's not only a Jeep, it's an old, non-standard Jeep. It can be a real pain to work with sometimes. But because it's so old, with an undersized engine for the body, it's actually super easy to work on this thing. I've learned a ton about cars just by owning and repairing it for the last 3 years. If you're wanting a car to use to learn basic mechanic skills, or if you have a son or daughter you want to teach those skills, I can't recommend this vehicle highly enough. It runs. In fact, it runs really, really well. I bled the brakes recently, so they're great at stopping the thing. The important stuff works just fine. If I sat here and listed every miniscule thing that's wrong with Newman, it would take me all day, and I wouldn't remember everything anyway. It's almost 50 years old, for Heaven's sake!
