Vehicle Detail
This '61 Lakewood starts easily and runs strong, will maintain highway speeds. Powerglide transmission, correct Lakewood engine with the oil filler neck/dipstick located by the rear access panel. Windows, doors, hood, lift gate all open and close as they should, though the seals are tired. Paint appears to be original, and there are plenty of scuffs and dings. Has a nice stylish patina, sort of a rat rod vibe. Ignition switch doesn't work, so to start just turn the key to "on" and I have a chrome button under the dash that starts the car. You could get a new ignition switch from Clark's but I kind of like the button ignition. Dash has been recently re-done and instrument cluster can't be original because it's nearly pristine. Odometer shows a little over 30,000 but I doubt that's correct. Front bucket seats are a different color red than the back seat. No radio, though there is a spot for one. Never tried the heat so can't say if that works. Glass is all intact. New plaid headliner. I removed the door panels and was going to replace them with fabric to match the headliner. Will include the door panels and the spare fabric. Too many projects to be able to complete them all so this one has to go - never thought I would say that but now I'm at that stage. You could restore this car, but it's ready to drive as is, just passed NY State safety inspection. Tires and battery are recent and have plenty of life, though the spare tire is old. Sold as is, where is: shipping is the buyer's responsibility, though I'm happy to help and can store the car a few weeks if needed. If you want additional photos just let me know.On Oct-31-15 at 05:46:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Put it up on the lift for the first time and found out that the gas tank looks new. Added photos of the rockers and undercarriage. Rockers are sound on both sides. As you can see, the floorboards are perforated but someone added metal above them. They didn't bother to cut out the old, which would have been better, but the floors feel solid from above. Tires have a lot of life in them, nice correct narrow whitewalls.
