This is a 1982 Volkswagen Vanagon with the original 1.5 L diesel engine. These things are practically impossible to find as a diesel version. This was the first year, that I am aware of, that Volkswagen put out a diesel engine in the Vanagon. Not many were sold in the United States because of the lack of faith that the American people had in the diesel engine at that time. GM at that time had put out a series of junk diesels that were nothing more than gas engines converted to diesel. Some of the research that I have done suggests that only 5000 or a little more of this type and model were sold in the United States. I rescued this van from a farm where it had sat for 12 years. The only thing that was wrong with the van was that it needed a new slave cylinder. I have replaced a lot of parts on this van because it had sat so long: new battery, new alternator, v-belts, new heater valves, all new break lines, backing plates, partial hydraulic lines, new slave cylinder, brand new tires, exhaust and muffler, along with a basic tune up. The van has surface rust in several spots that needs to be addressed and a small ding in the front directly under the windshield. I have taken some of the interior console unscrewed and set it aside to work on the van. Some of the plastic is starting to become brittle so you need to be really careful when handling it. The underbody of this thing is amazing because it sat for so long. Over all the van runs like a champ, but still needs some love and affection.This is a beautiful project car. I do want you to be aware that, if you buy this, I want it to be arranged to be picked up within 45 days of the purchase. I have sold this once on here and do not want to go through the hassle of being jerked around again. I am doing local pick up only and it will be your responsibility to arrange the delivery of the van.
