Vehicle Detail

1996 MITSUBISHI MONTERO LS - ALL ORIGINAL! 4 WHEEL DRIVE (before the late 90’s redesign to SUV Sport family models) Color: Champaign GoldOwner since 2-20-2002Mileage 215,247Very good condition for age.4x4 is strong and tight. Never Wrecked - not even a fender bender! Everything is Tight.Oil change and maintenance every 3,000.Have kept all records during my ownership. Still have carfax from when I bought it. PHOTO BUCKET PHOTOS AND VIDEOS: http://s816.photobucket.com/user/barrydollar/library/1996%20Montero%20for%20Sale?sort=9&page=1 Note: when you watch the videos (taken with my phone) all the sounds are much louder than normal. You can verify this by listening to how loud the sound of moving the shifter is. I make a point of this because the video of the engine running sounds much louder that it really is. It almost sounds like an airplane on the phone video, but in reality it is very quiet and purrs like a kitten. Trust me on this. It is a smooth running, quiet engine. I love the Montero and was keeping it to hand down to my son. Unfortunately he grew to 6’6” and is just a bit too big to fit comfortably. He can fit and drive, but we are concerned that his knees might be getting too close to the dash. I am 6’3” and feel/feel totally comfortable in it. This is a keeper, I do not want to sell it but now have four cars and one has to go. THE GOOD: This Montero is a solid, tight, smooth running machine. Four-wheel drive works great with multiple gear modes all the way down to everything locked together! You can climb a mountain in this thing! Front, rear and engine skid plates. I do not have the engine skid plate on for ease of changing oil, but I have it. Interior is in amazing condition for it's age. No rips, cute, etc. Everything pretty much intact and very comfortable. We have always used the factory carpeted mats, so the carpet underneath still looks great. Can’t say the same for the mats - they are soiled. Three rows of seats for up to 7 passengers. Second and third row can be folded up to produce a large cargo area. Accessories include: cargo net, cargo cover, tool kit in rear door, rear wiper & washer, detachable flashlight, rear power outlet (lighter style), hydrolic jack. Great sounding stereo with 10 disk CD changer (changer will hang up from time to time and you just eject the CD holder and put it back in.) THE BAD: 1. Air Conditioning working but not cooling- I took it to our mechanic and he gave us an estimate of $400.00 to fix. 2. Both front door windows need the window motor checked. On the driver’s side the window may be off the track or motor is bad because it only goes half way up. I have a card stuffed in the window channel to keep it up. The passenger side works when it wants to and is slow, so probably needs a new motor. 3. Tires - We only drive the Montero occasionally around town. The tires have been on it for 9 years and still plenty of tread, but we recently got a nail in the passenger side front. The nail is in the last ring of tread inside and we were told a plug would not hold there because the rubber is softer. Not sure if I buy that, or they wanted us to buy a set of tires. So the right front is flat. I pumped it up for pictures and it went flat again over night. I am planning to get a second opinion on the tire. So, might be time for at least two front tires if the leak can't be fixed. You can use the good front for the spare because the current spare does not match the others. 4. Fog lights do not work and I do not know why. It is possible that I've overlooked something, but if so it would be something small and not often thought of. THE UGLY: 1. The roof and roof racks are showing age. The paint is faded or peeling. There is starting to be a slight fading of the paint on the hood. The rear tire cover is showing it’s age. You can see in the pictures. 2. It drips oil when parked. Not much at all but enough to see several spots on the drive from over night. I parked it last night, put a mat under it, just looked today (24 hours later) and noticed 5 drops. No puddles, just drops. Ever since I’ve owned it it has used some oil between oil changes. It will use around a quart between oil changes if you are driving normal. If you push it, it will use more - we don’t hot rod it. We have always changed the oil every 3,000 miles. It runs great, and it sounds great, I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. THIS MONTERO 4X4 SOLD AS IS - USED WITH NO WARRANTIES I have done my best to describe, I am a novice when it comes to auto mechanics, so please look over pictures and videos carefully and ask questions. I will do my best to answer. On Sep-06-15 at 19:38:44 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE ON THE FLAT TIRE! Good news, I was able to get it plugged after all. I think the other place wanted to sell me a new set of tires.
