1983 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser, Factory Power Steering & Air Conditioning 1983 was the last year the FJ40 was imported into the United States with roughly 270 sold in its final year. Reportedly only a few dozen of the 1983’s were offered with factory installed power steering and air conditioning. This is one of the Holy Grail of FJ40’s with both rare factory options. Built by Toyota in August, 1983, it was sold new on 10-08-83 from Gene Osborne Toyota in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It also had history in southern California then back to Colorado before I purchased it 10 years ago. In Ohio, it has always been garaged and never driven in snow, salt or muddy conditions. Starts runs and drives beautifully - ready to drive from Ohio to anywhere in North or South America! BODY: The paint is the original tan with original brown pin striping. There is no bondo or filler and no paint touch-up anywhere. The previous owner told me the top had never been off in its life. All hard top gaskets are intact and there are no apparent signs of removal. As you can see from the photos, the paint still shines. There are a few rust spots but for a 1983, the rust is minimal with the worst being in the rear quarters. There is NO spray on bed liner anywhere and it has all of its original nuts and bolts. There are no new replacement trim parts - all original. INTERIOR: Interior is completely original; original seat coverings, and floor mats including the one-year-only front floor mat with the large TOYOTA stamped in it. It also features the beautiful one-year-only distinctive dash. The dash features a lighted 4 WHEEL DRIVE light, illuminated choke pull and digital clock (which is no longer functional). All internal lights work including the green one under the dash. All dials and gauges are 100% operational. All signals, stops, turn, hazard, and lights work correctly. There are no cracks in the dash pad. Included are the original jack, toolkit, owner’s manual, owners guide and the trouble light that plugs into an outlet in the glove box. DRIVETRAIN: The engine compartment is 100% factory original with all emission equipment intact. This model has the 3:73 highway gearing and the FJ60 head on the engine. It has a new oil pan and doesn’t leak. All bearings and seals have been replaced in the rear axles and there are no leaks. Front disk and rear drum brakes are in excellent condition. The 4-speed transmission, Warn locking front hubs and 4 wheel drive all operate correctly. New tie rod ends and Old Man Emu suspension and steering stabilizer give it an amazing ride quality. It goes down the road straight without the usual road walk typically associated with land cruisers. Engine starts, idles and runs beautifully, lots of power, a pleasure to drive. It makes some noise but is not always present. A new Aisin (Toyota) clutch kit is included with the cruiser. Also included are the original tan rear tire carrier, rear bumperettes, front bumper, etc. (see photo). This cruiser has a clear Ohio title.
