Vehicle Detail
I bought this car in 2008 from Evan Esterman of Bimmer Brothers in San Mateo. The car runs very well, and I love driving it, but I don't have the time for it anymore. I also no longer have garage storage, and I don't like leaving it out, even though it's always under a cover. When I had garaged it, it was still under the cover. The car was purchased from a salvage yard in 2004, and heavily restored. I bought it from Evan in good condition. I drove it from San Mateo to Lompoc CA with no issues. He gave me a folder with a handful maintenance receipts, and I put the pieces of the car's history together somewhat, and wrote that down in a text file that I will give you. I then added to my receipt folder, but of course (groan), I've moved a few times since I bought it and now most of that documentation is lost. I did manage to not lose some of the documentation (see description below and photos). I've had a lot of work done on the car. I used it as a daily driver from 2008-2012, and I've taken it on a couple of long road trips. I drove it round trip from Lompoc, CA to Reno, NV (as part of a trip with other BMW Bavaria enthusiasts) with no issues, then from Lompoc, CA to Shreveport, LA in the summer of '12. Again, other than the lack of A/C nearly killing me, the car ran like a complete champ. I then drove it from Shreveport to Durham, NC where it doesn't get to stretch its legs too much. The mileage is currently at 31292. When I bought the car, it showed approximately 8000. The 8000 figure is not reliable, but the difference (23,292) is. I've put about 24k on it since 2008. Work done: (* = I have the receipt still) - Used Getrag 265 transmission installed*- New shocks and springs*- New tires*- Electric fuel pump installed in trunk*- New radiator, fuel pump, fan clutch, fan, hoses*- Cylinder head rebuild Stuff I've done (with parts that primarily came from Jim at Mesa Performance in Costa Mesa, CA. I HIGHLY recommend Jim for parts):- Regular oil changes (Castrol GTX mostly)- Fuel filter changes- Spark plug changes- Minor carb adjustments- New battery- Installed rebuilt alternator- New starter motor- Valve adjustment- Radiator flush- Transmission box top-offs- Differential box top-offs- New bushings- Brake pads- Only used highest available gasoline grade Here's the stuff that knocks down the price to what I'm currently asking. I think it's fair given the following + the work I've done + the overall appearance and operational status of the car:- I lost a chunk of the damn maintenance documentation including the f***ing title- Duplicate title (see above)- No A/C- Windows: driver side was converted to manual, front passenger regulator is failing, left rear works perfectly, right rear doesn't work - 6-inch tear in the ceiling upholstery- Various nicks in paint and windshield- Some water spots on paint- Non factory paint (respray in '05)- Rust bubbles on left rear quarter panel- Rust bubbles on right C-pillar above chrome trim- Water gets into trunk on right side.- Hood doesn't close flush (bumped by the mechanics at Bavarian Auto Haus in Pismo Beach CA, never fixed)- Needs a competent valve adjustment job- Fuel indicator is not very reliable Spare parts that you'll get with the car:- New fuel sender unit- One door window seal/gasket- 4 beige vinyl door interiors cut for manual windshields (currently black vinyl and set up for electric windows)- A bunch of oil and fuel filters Here's VIN Info: http://www.bmw-e3-club.de/e3bmw/fahrgestellnummer.htmlHere's a video a made last week of me driving it: https://youtu.be/p4HqW6ljKuo I love this car, but it's time to part with it. I prefer cash or certified check, but I will take PayPal as well. I can take more pictures upon request.
