Vehicle Detail
I bought this car used at 53,191 miles. I purchased it on 4-29-2009. It has been a reliable car. Since then the oil was changed regularly, tires were changed, the ignition coil has been replaced, brakes replaced, and the spark plugs and wires have been recently changed. The car recently developed a leak in the radiator. Coolant is very thick. It is not overheating at this time. I took it to Midas and they said that it needs a new radiator and a flush. They quoted me about $900 to flush and change the radiator. A second mechanic said that there is possibly oil leaking into the coolant from somewhere causing the thick coolant. Since I've owned the car for 6 years, has 133,000 miles, and has been paid off for some time, I am unwilling to invest the money to repair the issues. KBB has this car priced at about $3000 in fair condition. Because of the known issues, I've decided to just auction it off here. Ideally I'm hoping that a mechanic or someone who is handy with vehicles can do the work themselves and get more life out of this vehicle. Car will need to be picked up or towed. It will not have any plates on it and will no longer be insured once sold. There is a DMV within 3 blocks of where the car is parked if you need to register it and get new plates to drive it away. On Jul-26-15 at 04:36:52 PDT, seller added the following information: A potential buyer asked me some questions.... here are more details. 1. Does the A/C and heat still work well? ANSWER: Yes, the AC and heat are showing no issues. AC is still good and cold as it always was. Heat is hot. 2. Are there any other mechanical issues you are aware of? ANSWER: None. Vehicle works and runs well otherwise. No major noises that have come out of nowhere, no rough idling, no slipping with the transmission, etc. 3. The carfax report lists an accident. Do you know the details? When I purchased the car it was in very good condition body wise. I didn't even realize it was in an accident. Never looked like it was. Based on the report, it seems like the first owner had the accident on the rear in the first year or two of ownership. Just to add, although the report states 3 owners, I believe I am really the 2nd long term owner... seems like the dealership I bought it from is considered the second owner on the report. 4. How did you discover the radiator problem? Did a check engine light come on, or was the car running hot? ANSWER: These issues started when winter transitioned to Spring and then very early in the hot summer. That light in one of the last pictures came on and flashed causing me to check under the hood. That's when I noticed the thick coolant. When I looked the problem up online, people with similar problems stated the the reserve tank connections that indicate low coolant may have failed. I just decided to disconnect that indication wire from the reserve tank... I figured I would just check under the hood more often to make sure the coolant wasn't low. About a month later I noticed some liquid on my driveway... I thought it was water or condensation from running the AC. I checked the reserve tank and it was not low. As I monitored for the next couple of days, I noticed the reserve tank low/empty and realized the coolant was leaking. I was hopeful it was only a hose but Midas showed me an area on the lower left passenger side of the radiator that had a drip. On Jul-26-15 at 04:41:22 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer another question, the car is not overheating. It has never overheated. I was driving the car for at least a good three months with the thick coolant... it never overheated or experienced decreased power in the AC or heat.
