Vehicle Detail

I'm listing this car for a friend who is selling the car for it's original owner. He has provided the following text: "First, let me thank you for viewing this listing/auction of this original 1963 Falcon Sprint 2-door hardtop. I will be listing a LOT of information on this car. This is a one owner 29 thousand mile car that I have been entrusted with liquidating for the original owner's son. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE THOSE INTERESTED TO PLEASE READ AND REREAD EVERYTHING I HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT THIS FALCON. THERE IS A LOT TO DESCRIBE HERE. Please read and reread this description as it will describe this car's history and true condition in detail. While this Falcon is mostly in incredible original condition, there are very serious problems to the underside of the uni-body from rust. This car spent the first two years of it's life on the roads in Michigan. As the pictures of the exterior show, the owner was very meticulous about the care of his new Falcon. He constantly washed and kept this Falcon clean. He had no idea just how fast the salt used on Michigan's roads in winter had attacked the underside of the car. Time and years passed by and in 1979 he parked it in the family garage and hoped to find a good donor body. He rolled up the windows, locked the doors, and never started nor drove Falcon again. Fast forward to 2015 when the owner's son, Peter; approached me about selling his Father's Falcon for him. The son and I had attended high school together and remembered how much I loved Fords. I got the car to my shop and very quickly had it running again. The following is a detailed description of the car. Please read it carefully. The bumpers are straight. but the chrome is definitely dull from being around for 52 years. However, they are the original bumpers to the car and are great cores to have re-chromed. The front grille is not the best due to the car becoming a fixture in the garage and having things like lawnmowers bumping into it over the years. The grille would need to be replaced. While the grille is pretty much shot, the hood was not damaged in any way. The engine is the original 260 cu. in. V8 with a 2 barrel carburetor. Runs like you would expect a 29 thousand mile motor to run. Oil pressure is fine, starts with one pump of gas and key, every time. It is a bit loud as the muffler is gone. To get it running again, I have replaced the fuel pump, but still have the original pump and line for the engine. The oil and filter have been changed. Engine was NOT dry started, it was hand primed via distributor several times. Needs new valve stem seals due to age. Smokes a little on start up, no other issues internally. May need water pump rebuilt or replaced. Belts were removed so as not to damaged the original water pump on start up. Water pump is not stuck or cracked. Engine still has antifreeze in it. The carburetor appears to have been replaced at some point. Owner thinks around 1966 or so. Correct Ford replacement. I have the original generator. It was removed for engine starting purposes. NO cut wires. The distributor is original. Care was taken to remove it for priming the oil pump. I have the original vacuum advance line, No cuts. Distributor needs vacuum advance rebuilt or replaced due to age. The interior of this car is incredible. It truly looks like a 29 thousand mile car's interior should look. The dash pad is perfect, still as new and soft. The headliner is as new with no rips or rodent damage. The white sun visors are still as new. The door panels and arm rests are still like new. The AM radio works perfectly with no scratchy volume control and tuner works as new. Radio push buttons are still set for Louisville stations from the 70's. The back seat is mint. I doubt that it was used much at all. The front seats are near mint. The driver's seat has a very small spot on the outer bolster that should be easily repaired. The console is perfect. The liner box is perfect. Chrome just needs polishing. Doors open/shut as new, no slamming needed. Windows roll up and down as new. Weatherstrips and fuzzies are still near perfect. Carpet is fair, it is faded from age but are original and could be redyed if so desired. The rear package tray is perfect. The Sprint steering wheel is the best I've seen in many years, please see picture. The horn ring needs polishing. The dash trim and bezels are near mint. All locks work as new and the keys are the originals and are as new. The glass is what you'd expect for a 52 year old car that has been garaged it's entire life, very nice. The heater box and ducts are original and are in incredible condition. It does appear that the heater core has been replaced at some point. I did cut the generic Red Atlas heater hoses at the firewall. I did not want to risk ruining the carpets if the heater core were to fail when the car was started after so many years. Here is a point I want to make about this Falcon Sprint. The tachometer on the dash you see in the picture is original to the car and is in mint condition and still works as new. The owner's son said that his dad would put his ball cap over the tachometer anytime the car was parked outside to keep the sun from fading the finish on the tachometer. He was that particular about the car. The wiring, light bulbs, door switches etc, are original to this car and still as new. Even the door switches are still cadium plated. The door latches on both doors are still cadium plated as new and still work as new. The transmission is a column shifted 2-speed automatic. It goes into gear both forward and reverse with no problems or hesitation. Haven't driven it fast enough for it to shift into second as the car has no brakes. The transmission shows no signs of leaking fluid. There is no play and is not sloppy feeling. The rear end housing is the original 8 inch unit and is very crispy from rust from the previously mentioned Michigan roads. However, I have seen worse restored so it would be the restorer's call as to whether or not to restore this housing. I would suspect, but have not verified that the brake shoes and related hardware are original. I believe the left rear drum has the Ford lock tabs on it. The trunk area is unreal to be so original and perfect at 52 years old. The original trunk mat is there and is about as perfect as they get and has no rips or tears. The filler boards are perfect too and have never been removed. in the left rear of the trunk is some left over fasteners placed there on the assembly line at Ford and have never been disturbed. The inside of the trunk shows no salt damage. The original jack is present and the original factory spinner hubcaps to the car have been in the trunk since 1979. The spare tire and wheel are on the right front of the car now. The clamps on the gas filler neck are as it was done in 1963. The top of the gas tank still looks as it did when it was new but the actual condition of the tank is unknown. The car has been lot driven using a can of gas under the hood. The filler board between the back seat and trunk is still in as new condition with no warpage. The rubber oval plugs covering the shock access holes are still as soft as they were when new and have never been disturbed. The wiring harness in the trunk is as new as well. The fuel tank has been unused since 1979 and may yet be salvageable. At the very least it would need to be professionally cleaned. The fuel line under the car is not salvageable and are available new. The brakes do not function at all. The car has no brake pedal at all. The brake lines under the car are shot and will have to be replaced. The Master cylinder does appear to have it's original copper cap which is nearly impossible to find. The entire brake system although original, will have to be completely rebuilt, no question about it. The tires are no good, but will hold air. The stainless trim and moldings are in incredible condition for a car this old. I found no issues with any of the moldings and they should easily polish up as new. They appear from my experience to have never been removed from the car since they were installed on the assembly line at Ford. Most of the emblems are still as new and worthy of a show car, they are that clean. The only issues I found were that the "Sprint" and "260" emblems on the left front fender are broken. The plastic clear center of the trunk lock is crazed due to age. The trunk lock bezel itself is still like new and the spring remains unbroken. Those interested in more information can call me at (502) 338-1218 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. I will be glad to talk about the Falcon, you may also leave a message on my phone and I will call you back. This Falcon is being sold as-is where is. Winning bidder should contact me within 24 hours of auction close and I would like Payment by Certified Bank Check to be made within 72 hours of auction close unless other arrangements are agreed to by both seller and buyer. No Paypal and no trades. Buyer assumes all responsibility for shipping, payment, etc. I can hold the car for up to 2 weeks and buyer should arrange mutually agreeable pick-up time with me. The Falcon will drive fine onto your trailer for loading. The Falcon has NO BRAKES. Bring chains and tie straps to lock it down for transport. " It's rickvee2 again. As you could tell, Jeff did his best to describe the car in minute detail. I took the pictures myself and have seen the car up close and can add the following: The underside of the car is in bad shape as is the side panels of the engine compartment. The car has never been wrecked but is rusty. The doors are real solid, the rust you see on the bottom of the right door in picture #12 is not rusted through. The engine runs smoothly but really can't say anything more since the muffler is gone and you really can't listen to it, but I will say that it does start right up and idles just fine, doesn't act up when you put it in gear either. The tachometer works perfectly and the Sprint steering wheel is the best I have seen in about 30 years. I have more pictures of the car than posted in this auction and I will be glad to send them to interested parties. This car would really be a neat car if restored. At auction's end, the winning bidder should contact Jeff Kaiser at (502)338-1218 to make all arrangements to complete the sale.
