Okay folks, if you’re a Westie fan then have I got a listing for YOU! Up for your consideration and bid is this delightful 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Wolfsburg Edition! IMPORTANT NOTE! Some of you will recognize this listing as one that was removed from eBay last week. Well, THAT was some drama… apparently the complimentary Autocheck Vehicle History Report flagged this van as having been “rebuilt” in 1997. Since we allegedly didn’t represent the van as rebuilt, eBay pulled the listing in the interest of buyer protection. We have a clear title on this van that reflects no such rebuild! So after throwing a miniature fit with Georgia DMV and Autocheck, I received an email apologizing for the ERROR. That’s right: this van is certified NOT rebuilt. So bid with confidence! This van has it all, folks – table, bed, storage, pop-up camper top with upper bed… everything! It has been pretty much everywhere and back several times, and has stickers all over it to show for the ride. We replaced the tires a couple of years ago, and they are still in great shape. You’ll notice from the paint job that we bought the van several years ago from a traveling evangelist who drove it all over the country. He had a mural painted on it that tells the Gospel story of forgiveness and redemption: starting from the temptation of Eve all the way around to Heaven itself. That said, the paint job is fading and worn with a few rust spots… you will probably want to repaint it. The van still has the original windshield snap-on curtain and rear hatch bug net. Elastic bands in the rear overhead are in great shape for holding silverware, tools… whatever you want to store up there! Keep in mind that this is a 30-year old vehicle, so don’t expect it to be in pristine, showroom condition! There are a lot of cosmetic things wrong with it, and a couple of major things that will need immediate attention. Here are the issues we’ve identified: · Windshield is cracked · Rear bumper is dented · Rear View Mirror broke off the mount · Sun visors flop · Horn was intermittent, eventually stopped working · Seats, cushions and bedding need re-upholstered · Odometer wasn’t working when we got it… and it still isn’t working · Glove box flops down when you open it Front roof Luggage Brace missing since we got it Insect netting/screen on driver back seat broken Passenger back seat window lock does not function · Drink holders broke somewhere way back in its past · Overheat light blinks even when it’s not overheating · It could use some new weatherstripping · Refrigerator may or may not work – we’ve never used it · There is currently only ONE KEY for the van and ONE KEY for the gas tank– don’t lose them! Okay, those are the known cosmetic and operational issues (if I think of more I’ll add them). This van drives very well… for the moment. Trusted on short trips around town… but our mechanic has advised us that it imminently needs a new clutch and a transaxle, particularly before making a long or important trip. Good thing those two can be replaced at the same time, saving extra labor costs! Judging by the final prices of other recent Westie sales, we have set a realistic reserve on this auction to protect our investment. Once that low reserve is met, somebody’s going to own this wonderful ride… and it may as well be you! $500 deposit MUST be received within 48 hours of auction’s end.
