Vehicle Detail

This fiat has been stored in a clean dry garage for the last approximately 30 years. After putting in some gas directly to the carberateur it started right up. Then I drove it in both first and reverse before shutting it off as I didn't want to take any chances on an old timing belt. I can tell you it runs very strong -- no smoke -- spark plugs were perfect. The transmission shifted into all five gears very well -- but I didn't have a chance to drive in each of them to prove them out. This was a friend of mine's father's baby. He upholstered the seats and painted the body. The paint isn't orange peeled and in fact looks good for someone painting it themselves -- but it does have a paint sag on the passenger front fender. The soft top material will need to be replaced -- but the frame is good -- as well as all glass in the car is perfect. This is a fairly rust free car. The floors have been protected by what appears to be a tar base that must have came on the cars new.The very edge of the drivers door flor area has separated at the door edge. Obviously it was rusted through but it looks as if it was surgically cut. Should be an easy fix. I spotted a couple of inches of surface rust in one area of the trunk -- very slight amount. Along the edge of the car -- while looking up from the bottom some metal has been removed in the past to get rid of rust. Again these are small and easily fixed while aiding in not allowing for any trapped water. I am going to extremes in explaining any rust as I believe that aspect is very important on these cars. This would be a great car to restore -- and likely would not take to much work to have on the highway. On Apr-25-15 at 05:37:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I wanted to add more to the main body in case some people aren't seeing the questions and answeres on their ebay application (which I can't on my phone). The question is whether this ebay buyer could drive this car to Dallas from Wichita. I wrote back -- Thank you as you've made me re-look at my explanation of the car to make sure I wrote it in a specific enough way. I want to make sure everyone understands that this car had not been driven for a very long time. I think it was last tagged in 1989. Bringing a car back to life after a long hibernation is a very rewarding experience (at least for me). I did some preliminary work by making sure the engine would run by starting it up when I put a battery temporarily in and purposely bypassing the fuel tank so that it had clean gas. It has old oil, old belts, old hydraulic brakes (that will need to be rebuilt), old tires, old gas, and old windshield wipers and etc.. With all of that this car has great potential having been stored in a clean dry environment for all these years. So- no it can't be driven to Dallas. Even though the engine runs strong -and the running gear seems great - you need to consider this as a non-running car. I saw no oil leaks when we pulled it from the garage. Hope this makes it a little bit more clear. On Apr-25-15 at 09:45:49 PDT, seller added the following information: I just met with someone much more knowledgeable on fiat 124's than I am. I would consider myself as a semi-car person but I’m still very naïve about these particular cars. We found that the shock tower on the passenger side has a rusted hole in it. The tower has been (strengthened – repaired) by welding new metal on the tower itself. Inside the areas where I talked about earlier --- from the cut outs on the bottom of the car (pictures) I rubbed my fingers on the passenger side panel from the bottom of the car and some rust flakes came off of it. This car is very much together (has all it’s parts, even the pan under the engine). I believe this is a good car to restore – but every restorer is different about how deep and how perfect they want a car. So I can’t guarantee all the hidden areas – I’m just going by what I can see. I'm sorry about adding this on so late but I want it to be as accurate a listing as possible.
