I acquired this M-38 in 1995. I rebuilt the engine -- new pistons, valves and guides, timing gear, bearings, etc. -- with machine work locally at A&R Machine and have worked on it the past 20 years. Brake cylinders were all good but I added new kits. New manufacture parts -- Canvas, seat covers, straps. Gas tank, pan, and sending unit. Wiring harness for jeep and trailer. Engine rebuild parts and brake kits. Cover for engine battery box. Trailer tool box. Shovel. Everything else is in original or NOS, including the rifle rack, data plates, hemp rope and bumper shackles, hood aux power plug, spare tires, radios and antenna, axe head, windshield, etc. The radios were bought from a local surplus dealer "as is". I have not tried to power them up and have yet to add the power and antenna cables. A couple of fuses are missing but the dials and switches are free. I have speaker boxes and a switch box to go with it. Fire extinguisher also. The trailer came from a nearby town surplus sale about 15 years ago missing most of the military parts. The rear had been cut out to drop down as a tail gate and since then re-welded up. I added the towing eye and dog leg. Been looking for the spring and just yesterday found and bought one. Wheel bearings were good so repacked and reinstalled. Added a wiring harness and 24 volt lights. Reflectors are as came off another junker Army Jeep. You might want to touch up the paint on the reflectors. The right rear fender on the Jeep is reinforced for a spare tire (Willys also sold this body as a CJ-2 with a side mounted tire). A retired army officer helped in the work,....well, advised actually,...okay, talked mostly...Anyway, he relayed how their combat Jeeps (Viet Nam), which included some M-38's but mostly -A!'s and 151's -- carried as many spare tires and jerry cans as they could mount securely. And if they could find 3 radios, they figured out a way to fit them in the back. I had a extra tire mount and wheel/tire, so it went on. He said they always cut a tail gate in their trailers. It was a lot easier to pull heavy ammo boxes and canvas and gear out the back instead of up and over the side. They also made plywood dog houses for the trailers so as to haul more gear, but I'll leave that for the next owner. It starts and runs well. The brakes work well but have better pressure on the 2nd pump. The tires are weather checked but hold air, I'll add air to one or two of them maybe once a year. The engine pan is wet but doesn't drip. The transmission is tight, and transfer case/diff's are quiet. This is a low mileage Jeep that was probably over-revved by some 18 YO private. That being said, if you know Army Jeeps, these things are for display, parades, and maneuvers...not the road! Okay, I drove it last summer to a car show 40 miles away. Here in Oklahoma you can get away with stuff as rural as we are. It is used mostly in activities with the Airborne Demonstration Team in Frederick, Oklahoma. (www.wwiiadt.org) This is a complete, "used" Army Jeep, ready to go, with lots of extras. I titled it in 1995 but didn't renew it yearly and now that title is out of the system. Sold "as is, where is" with a bill of sale. If you want a project, there are many little things to do, add a few decals, fire extinguisher mount, etc.,or just drive it as is, like a REAL Jeep. Includes my original Army maintenance/overhaul manual. It can be seen, inspected, and picked up (after payment of course) at the Frederick Army Airfield, Frederick, Oklahoma. No reserve on this auction listing. Addendum: I have responded to a couple of questions but I they haven't shown up in the questions box. 1. Would I consider trade for a time share in a vacation area? I declined. I'm looking for an outright sale . 2. Does it have doors and side curtains? I never added them. We had another Jeep with doors and side canvas. It was cumbersome and visibility was poor so we took them off and never used them, even in cold weather. But the new owner can add them of course. 3. Would I accept an international bid? I would be glad to as long as the buyer arranges shipping and import/export fees and, of course, transaction in $US. A qualified shipping company will be able to advise a buyer about import/export duties. Later...Hey! I figured out how to post questions!
