Vehicle Detail

I purchased this rare gem brand new in 1972. Two years later, it became my mother's main driver and has been ever since. Always garaged, and well-maintained for 43 years, this all-original survivor still starts, runs and drives fine. Engine, transmission, rack & pinion steering, clutch and brakes all fully operable. Original throughout, including paint and interior. Four matching tires with about 70 percent remaining tread, along with two studded snow tires on rims are included. Excellent condition overall, considering its age. Recent tune-up, including carburetor rebuild, new fuel pump and starter motor. Light smoke at tailpipe upon cold startup, but none after that or during driving, which might even go away with a fresh oil change and some more frequent use. Exhaust system is sound. Glass is original and in good condition. Woodgrain on passenger door was replaced way-back under factory warranty and matches exactly, but has a slightly higher "sheen" as the originals have faded a bit more. The 2.0 german engine in these early Pintos proved to be better than the 2.3 that Ford used in the later models with the big bumpers. Have receipt for engine rebuild at 118,880 miles, November 20, 1987. The 43,685 miles since have taken nearly 30 years to accumulate. Total mileage is 162,565 (5 digit odometer has been around once). Driven a couple of days a week right up to last month when my 91 year old mother quit driving. Just started it to take photos after 20 days sitting, and it jumped to life quickly without a battery jump and ran on fast idle like it should when cold, and slowed to normal, smooth idle when warmed. Aftermarket guages were installed in 1972, and a failed water temp guage was just replaced. The photo of those guages shows full operating temperature, and decent oil pressure at slow idle. The amp guage has never been hooked up, and the "alt" light functions normally (lights when key is turned on and goes off when engine fires and alternator turns). The heater core began leaking last year, and some coolant remains in the passenger side carpet and pad. The heater core has been bypassed (heater hoses connected together in engine compartment as shown in photo), so it needs a new heater core if you want heat. Selling to help fund new assisted living housing for mother. Original owners manual included in glove compartment. Overseas buyers welcome if arrangements for local pickup are made by buyer and funds are paid in U.S currency. If final payment (beyond $500 PayPal deposit) is paid with PayPal, appropriate amount (I think about $80 per thousand) must be added to final payment to offset PayPal fees. This hard-to-find classic (ebay does not even have a Pinto model classification) needs a new home as caring as it has had for the last 43 years! Fuel tank freshly filled as guage indicates. Bid-to-win! No reserve! UPDATE: Just jacked up both sides to supply an interested bidder 8 photos of the underside. No room for any more photos on this page, but they confirm that the entire underside is tidy and totally free of rust. None in floor pans, none in frame rails, none in body mounts, none in rocker panels, none in door bottoms, none around weather stripping, none anywhere else, except the minimal rust at both rear wheel well lips as shown in photos 5 & 6 above. Some light buildup of oil at oil pan and differential over decades of normal seepage can be seen, but no fluids have ever dripped on driveway. Similar to what is shown in the engine compartment photos--nothing has ever been cleaned off in an attempt to hide many years of normal seepage. Radiator has been recored at some point and is excellent and free of leaks. Has always been garaged, which accounts for the astounding condition of the original Ginger Brown metallic paint and the lack of rust. I drove it 35 miles from my mom's garage to my home today, and everything operated normally.
