Vehicle Detail
2005 Mazda RX-86 speed manualWinning Blue/Black cloth89,000 miles This car has been my baby and I have spared no time or expense to maintain it and keep it running in optimal shape. I am the third owner. I looked for a long time for this particular RX-8 and had it shipped all the way from Indiana, where the second owner used it strictly as a weekend car and stored it during the winter. It was originally a FL car with its first owner and it came back to FL when I purchased it. It has never seen snow, nor does it have any rust or road salt damage. I have recently moved to California and brought the car with me. It is currently titled and registered in CA and passed smog with flying colors in August 2014. There is nothing wrong with the car, it made the 3,000 mile drive from FL to CA without skipping a beat and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. I am only selling because we now have a company vehicle and have no need for an extra car. The good:I have all service records of the car since 2008. The next owner will get a binder with all records and receipts. The car needs nothing! The car is in excellent mechanical condition. It is on the original engine, which still has great compression. I have had Mazda perform a compression test just in case and the service advisor told me they can't guarantee that even a new motor would be as strong as the current one. It does not have any issue starting up, hot or cold. Compression numbers: Rotor 1 @ 247 RPM 7.7/7.9/7.4; Rotor 2 @ 245 RPM 245 7.7/7.7/7.8The transmission shifts flawlessly. It is not notchy, nor does it grind in any gear. It does not have the 2nd or 4th gear grind that some RX-8s suffer from. The clutch does not slip. Anyone who knows RX-8s will tell you that the engine and transmission are the car's weak spots, and this RX-8 does not have any issues with either. I had the transmission oil changed in February 2013 with Redline. The catalytic converter was replaced once by Mazda under warranty while the car was still with the orignal owner, so the current catalytic converter has relatively low miles and should be trouble-free for years to comeAll electronics, A/C and heater work as they shouldNew control arms and bushings in October 2013 (you can see the replacement arms still have the new part stickers in the pictures). No worn out/torn bushings, the car handles like newNew OEM radiator, thermostat, radiator/coolant hoses and belts in February 2014New battery, spark plugs and cabin filter in August 2014New OEM brake padsUpdated starter (early RX-8s had weak starter issues, which Mazda addressed with an updated part)Updated tail light gaskets. No issues with condensation collecting in the tail lights like many other RX-8s.Oil changed every 3000 miles with Castrol 5w20 and only OEM Mazda filters have been used. I've sent oil samples to Blackstone a couple of times and both times it came back with a clean bill of health.4-6oz of Idemitsu premix have been used per tank under my ownership to prolong engine life.Always properly warmed up. Never shut off when cold. Engine has never been flooded. I like to occasionally take the engine to redline to prevent carbon buildup.Recent alignment in January 2015Recent detail (clay bar, polish and wax). Overall the car is in great cosmetic condition for its age and mileage. The paint is smooth, glossy and pops in the sun. While it's no show car, it is a real head-turner. It still gets plenty of looks, attention and compliments on how great it looks and people are surprised that it's a 2005 carNo accidents or paintwork that I know ofHankook Ventus tires have tons of tread left The car comes with a number of upgrades:Tinted windowsK&N air filterSlotted brake rotorsStainless steel brake linesHotchkis 27mm front sway bar.RX8Performance engine mounts. I replaced them under dealer's recommendation, since one of the OEM ones was failing. No extra vibrations and these will never fail.CorkSport Power Series dual exhaust. It is not loud and does not drone. It is just loud enough to remind you that this is no ordinary sedan when you step on the gas. :) The bad: I have tried picturing any cosmetic imperfections as well as I could.Front bumper has numerous rock chips and nicks commensurate with the mileage on the car. There are a few nicks and scratches in the paint, the most noticeable ones being around the fuel door and under the left tail light on the rear bumper. The dash on the passenger side has developed about a 2" long crack, which is a very common problem on RX-8s. The car is garaged almost all the time, and I always use a sun shade when parked in the sun, so it has not gotten any worse over time. The coolant level light comes on once in a while when driving on the freeway. This is another very common problem on the RX-8. The coolant level is fine, the car does not leak or lose any coolant. The issue is the coolant level sensor in the overflow bottle, which commonly goes bad on these cars, causing a low coolant level light. The overflow bottle was replaced once already, but it started happening again. I have left it alone as it is not a cause for concern and just check the coolant level periodically.I am missing the battery cover, engine cover and strut tower brace. I have all the parts in storage in Florida, but it did not occur to me to pack them when I moved as they do not affect the car's performance. The battery cover I left off when I replaced the battery, and I've removed the engine cover as it only traps heat. If the buyer needs them, I can possibly ship them to you next time I am in Florida. Or you can find a used strut tower brace and engine cover on eBay for about $40.The wheels have some curb rash. You can find additional pictures here: 2005 Winning Blue Mazda RX-8 Gallery
