Vehicle Detail
The first-generation Toyota MR2 is a mid-engined classic. The light weight, mid-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive make for incredibly responsive handling. This car does exactly what you want it to at the very instant that you direct it to. It responds like a direct extension of the driver. I love this car, but after owning it for 17 years and adding two cars (through marriage!) last year, it's time to let this one go. Before me, I believe the car had one owner, in Colorado. I bought it in California, had it there for five years, and brought it back to New York, where it's been the past 12 years. Completely smoke-free. Over the years, I've put in a few great modifications:- slick ENGINE START button, for that cool race car feel- Alpine iXA-W404 digital media head unit for iPod integration- powerful Sony amplifier under the passenger seat- subwoofer behind driver's seat As mentioned in the condition description, the car does have some defective parts that you either need replacement, or some you could live with. These include:- cracked rim, so air leaks from the tire- parking brake won't engage (cable needs replacement)- battery doesn't hold a charge- driver's power window doesn't come back up without some help The car does need a couple of things, but don't be misled. It has passed inspection year after year, and runs great, even nearing 200K miles! This is a great opportunity to grab this special car for a nice low price! Just contact me if you would like to see and drive the car. I need the sell the car right away, because I don't have space to keep it. The registration is expired since December, since I haven't been driving it, and the inspection just expired on 1/31. I haven't had trouble with inspection in the past, but I'm selling it with no guarantee of inspection. That would be up to you post-sale. Payment will be required within 3 days of sale in the form of cash, PayPal, or cashier's check / money order, and you can pick the car up in Tarrytown, NY.On Feb-10-15 at 12:53:16 PST, seller added the following information: Additional "FAQ" information: Does it track straight and true, without needing steering input?- It does track straight and true.Any problems with the transmission? (grinding, popping out of gear, etc)- No transmission problems.Any exhaust leaks?- No exhaust leaks (passed NYS inspection last year).Any fluid leaks? (oil, coolant, etc)- Small engine oil leak, leaved a couple of drops when parked. Don't know where the leak is from.Does the engine idle smooth and steady, without stalling?- Engine idles smooth and steady.Any steering wheel vibration?- Steering wheel has slight vibration around 50 mph, but otherwise fine. When was the timing belt changed?- Timing belt last changed at 129K (so it is due). Are the clutch and brakes in good shape?- Clutch and brakes feel good (passed inspection last year).Cracked rim - which wheel has the crack? How long does the air last in this tire? Can it be driven at highway speeds, as it is?- Cracked rim is left front. Its ability to hold air seems to depend on the weather. In winter weather (around freezing temp), it can go flat overnight. In warmer weather, it might hold for weeks. Putting air in it now, it can be driven at highway speeds, though the main concern is probably that tire, because the car has sometimes rested on that tire completely flat.Has it been given regular oil changes?- It has had pretty regular oil changes. Maybe a 9 on a 1-10 scale. Is the driver's side dent on the door only, or on the body as well? Does the door scrape against the frame when closing? - Dent on the driver's side is mostly on the door, a little bit on the rear fender also (forward of the fuel flap). It doesn't affect the opening/closing of the door (or fuel flap) at all. Someone backed into me at slow speed in a parking lot, but I never got it fixed.Any rust on the chassis, especially under the rear wheel arches?- I haven't seen any rust. I've cleaned out dead leaves occasionally, which I know to cause rust problems for MR2s.Driver side window - does it close all the way with help?- Driver side window does close all the way. It struggles mostly at the bottom, but once it's pulled up enough, it will close the rest of the way.Speaking of which, does the AC work?- AC works 95% of the time. There have been times when it blows hot, until it decides to blow cool again. Haven't had the problem diagnosed.
