Vehicle Detail
THIS IS MY PERSONAL DRIVER 1979 CHEVY EL CAMINO owned since 2006 and driven just like it is since with no problems. 15" CRAGARS and B.F. GOODRICH tires DO NOT come with the car or in this auction they are extra $$$ if you want them. ($700 extra) seems a lot of people want the car but don't want to pay for it..? one said "it has rust " ! I've figured out they think it HAS to be rebuilt and like new like on all these TV SHOWS where they buy cars, put $15-$30,000 in them and flip them and rip people off. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. This el Camino was basically all original except the paint. but the paint was very nice back then, it could use a repaint but its just a driver /work truck to me. Runs and drives VERY WELL. New cloth/vinyl seat upholstery and a headliner comes with the vehicle. Carpet is not that great, some bad and dirty spots, but could and probably should be replaced if you want it to look new. It's old, it has rust, it needs floor pan work if you want, Yes, it does have rust underneath.. the FRAME is very good from front to rear. Just a driver vehicle but just a work truck to me. It has minor body filler in the lower doors and maybe a few other places as far as I can tell- I'm not qualified to say much about body work or anything related. It has a bullet dent in the hood ! someone within a mile obviously shot into the air and the bullet came down on the hood! crazy! So.... It was originally a white vehicle and painted Black long ago from what one shop told me- You can see white in the bed where black has been worn off.(bed floor surface is rough as it's been used over the years) Since I acquired it many things have been done at a cost of about $6-$7000 which includes the labor and parts of course. Some major things are: Rear frame section from axle back replaced- it simply was too rusted at that time for me when I had the money , so I had purchased a used frame section from Montana and had it replaced by a professional frame shop. The ring and pinion was replaced with a nice set of 3:08 gears and other needed parts and fluid. ALL new brakes, rotors, drums and pads/shoes. New full length fuel line Carburetor rebuild with larger jets and metering rods. New professionally rebuilt Fresh 305 HO heads (14014416) with all new springs, valves, seals, etc. Purchased from a very reputable eBay seller this past year. New cam, lifters, roller tip rockers, chain, gears, water pump, gaskets. I think the cam is around a 424 lift or close to that.(I'll have to look again if I still have the papers) Newer front steering parts - tie rods, center link, idler arm, one ball joint. It has a Monte Carlo SS "Y" exhaust to the rear axle partially fabricated at the converter area with a high flow converter . New 14" Cooper Cobra tires on the original Rally wheels shown in the picture. Recently replaced the tranny kick down cable. It will need parking brake cables -fairly cheap and easy to get and put on.
