Vehicle Detail
My old farm truck- Good 460ci engine-good 4 speed, floor shift/granny gear trans.-good rear end-good tires. Cab is shot, missing door panels, floor board is rusted thru. IT'S NOT RUNNING RIGHT NOW. The engine fires with a little gas in the carb. It might need a fuel pump or just new clean fuel? It's anybodys guess on the mileage. I have had the truck for more than 18 years. My wife needed something to pull a 3 horse trailer. This truck came with a 300ci? V8. It always needed more power to climb a hill of any size. I had a 460ci engine that was said to have come out of a police cruser from the 70's. I had to marry the engine to the tranny with a 1985 bellhousing to get the 460 into the truck. After the engine switch, climbing a hill did not include a downshift, if you wanted to go faster, just give it some more gas. I did change the 4 barrel to a 2 barrel after a the gas prices jumped so high so fast. We used the truck up untill 2004 over the highway. After that I used it only to carry round bales for the farm. We started getting our hay delivered maybe 4 years ago. About the engine. Before I installed the 460 engine I did rebuild it, std. bearings, hone the cyclinders, std.rings, and valve job. 3 days after the switch I had to make a trip to KY on the interstate. After that I didn't worry much about the engine being right. No it does not smoke,or leak oil. I do think the exhaust manifold is leaking. It was not much of a problem to me because of the small amount of use it was getting. If you want a "go fast" engine this is a good start. Maybe 6 years ago I had put new seals in the tranny. I'm sure I changed the end bearings at the same time. I guess I should have cleaned up the truck to sell it. But I figured whoever buys it will know what they need, and I don't think it's the paint job.
