Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 1974 L-48 Corvette. Relisted as it didn't meet the reserve last time, lowered now and a BIN added. This has been my weekend project for about five years and I have a ton of time and money invested. However, my work schedule and personal obligations no longer allow me to work on it or complete it, and a new house meant I lost my shop, so it has to go. The BAD: I have not started the body work, and it needs some fiberglass work. Screw holes from when the front clip was installed need to be fixed, front fender, and nose piece needs attention. Not a big deal for someone that can do it. Will obviously need paint once done. Pace car spoiler has been molded in; very unique piece. The GOOD: I have done so much work to the car that it's hard to list it all, and I have pictures of most of the process if you're interested. Apart from bodywork, the car is almost complete. The basics: The car has a GM crate motor installed with Vortec heads, Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock 650 carb, headers, and almost all new driven components (water pump, chrome p/s pump, chrome alternator, Melling oil pump). I did not rebuild the lower end as it ran well when I bought it, but in addition to the new heads I installed new pushrods, roller rockers, and a very aggressive cam (maybe too aggressive, the car has about 8" of vacuum at idle and a very distinct lope). The TH400 auto is solid, all I did to it was a good flush, a deep pan, a new filter, and changed out the front and tail seals and speedo gear o-ring. Car has 3.55 gears, all I did to it was change the pinion and yoke seals. All six u-joints were changed. Radiator was flushed and checked and an electric fan and new thermostat installed. New hoses, cap, and overflow tank. Headers from Corvette Central, and a Mid-America chambered exhaust installed. The car is LOUD but sounds awesome, if I kept it I would add mufflers to avoid making the neighbors too mad. :) All new suspension rubber and four of eight body mounts were changed. New front sway bar, etc. The rear trailing arms were rebuilt with new bearings, as well as new wheel bearings in the front. A brand new, $1500 Vintage Air system is installed, but has not been evacuated and charged yet. It won't take much to finish it (a purge and charge and it should be good to go). R134A and all new ductwork and fan assembly. I can't believe I'm selling it with the car... Didn't change the brake booster, but rebuilt all four calipers (honed/changed orings and pistons). New slotted rotors, brake pads, all new steel lines, and new master cylinder with chrome cap. The "brake" light is lit, I think the proportioning valve is giving a bad signal as the brakes are very good. Usually a bleed will fix it but I haven't gotten around to doing it. Window registers were rebuilt, regreased, mechanism springs replaced, and all new rollers. Power windows work very well. The rags you see in the doors are because the inside felt is removed. The interior is complete except for door panels and T-top materials. I have new weather stripping for the tops that'll go with the car. New seat covers, seat foam, carpet, etc. The entire car has dynamat sound proofing installed everywhere I could get to it. The headlight mechanisms on these cars are terrible, and I haven't got these working yet. But I've changed or rebuilt every piece of the vacuum system and I believe the vacuum port on the light switch must be bad. But there is a ton of money tied up in new headlight components (new relays, rebuilt cans, all new hoses, etc). See the pictures for the rebuilt headlight mechanisms. The electrical system has been completely redone, and everything works except for the tachometer (which was working until about a week ago and probably needs a new circuit board). The harness is from a '75, which eliminated the awful seat belt interlock as well as the mechanical tachometer. All the center stack gauges (fuel, temp, volts, clock, and oil pressure) are top of the line Auto Meter arctic whites and are all brand new. Plan was to do the Arctic Whites for the speedo and tach eventually... The taillight and backup light lenses are all brand new and the tails have been converted to LEDs (one of a kind). Sound system is awesome. RetroSound stereo, amplifier, 6x9" speaker box, new 4x6" in the front. Plays USB sticks and has an aux input. So to summarize: the car needs a good bit of body work and paint, and needs to have the bugs worked out like any car does after a rebuild. But it's a great deal, has great bones, and you'll get the stuff I've bought for pennies on the dollar. Selling it makes me really sad, I have hundreds of wrench hours in it. But I realize that with work and family pressures I'll never finish or enjoy it, and a new house means that I have nowhere to store it. The reserve is $6K. Engine, and other component pics are before installation. They are installed in the car now, and are obviously not "extras." I have the hood, hinges, etc. and will include them. Clear Louisiana title in my name. No hassle transfer. I'm an honest guy with >500 positive feedback. Not a professional seller. If you want pictures, video, or to come see it and hear it run come on down! But if you win, it's yours!
