Vehicle Detail

General - Like so many other ads on eBay these days, this is a project that I will probably never get around to, so rather than have it set outside for another winter, I want to pass it along to someone who will begin a restoration. It is a 1953 GMC (Advance Design), and showing just less than 50,000 miles; although I entered 99,999 as eBay won’t let you enter unknown. It is one of the most sought after years and bodies of the 1950s and many of their parts interchange with the Chevrolet Advance Design from late 1947 to early 1955. It is an excellent candidate for either restoration or to hot rod. Advertise your business, favorite cause , race team or whatever and the best part is it is a 1 ton so it can become your shop truck, construction, landscape or whatever and do some work for you. The truck has a clear Montana title. Body and frame - The best part about this truck is there is very little rust (see pictures); we are very dry here in Montana and use no salt. The worst rust I have discovered, is a small spot on the drivers side of the bed, (see pictures). No matter whether restoration or hot rod is your goal you are money and time ahead by starting with as solid and rust fee vehicle as you can possibly find. It does however have 61 years of ranch use and dents (small and large), stress cracks, tears, welds and minor rust and a lot of what some people today call "patina". The windshields are not broken or de-laminated which is very unusual for their age, the back glass is also intact. The side windows, which are simple straight laminated glass that any glass shop can cut, will need to be cut and installed. The bed needs some attention, currently it has an old rusty sheet metal over what is left of the original wood bed. I always thought putting the wooden bed back in one of these old trucks would be a fun job. It does not have to be oak, according to my research after the World War II General Motors used mostly pine. The tailgate is not present for duty. The running boards which are difficult to find and expensive, are intact. The grill is very straight. This old truck still has the splash pan between the front bumper and grill. The cab which is the same for a ½ ton is almost perfect as to damage, (see pictures), and alone is worth my buy it now price. Mechanical - The truck has a GMC six cylinder which the previous owner said he started in the summer of 2014 and it would run for a few seconds and die, and I have no cause not to believe him. I suspect all it needs is the fuel tank, fuel pump and carburetor all need to be removed and cleaned and the lines blown out. I cannot attest to the condition of the entire drive train other than it is all present. The transmission is a four speed and seems to enter all gears and the clutch seems to function properly. The differential appears to be a stock 50s vintage. The brake pedal is down and the brakes will need some attention; the first component I usually attend to is the brake system. You want to do this right as these old trucks only had a one chamber master cylinder and any leak anywhere and you are suddenly out of brakes altogether. The emergency brake system seems to be intact and functions. A new ignition switch will need to be installed as the key is AWOL. There is no battery that goes with the ruck, however for the but it now price I will provide an almost new 6 volt battery with lot of cranking amps. Interior – Not much to talk about here. The floor and the cab corners are solid, (see pictures). The seat appears to be original, and is badly deteriorated, but could be used as is with a pad and cover for a while to save money. The interior of this truck is all there; if you are going for an original restoration - clean it and paint it. If you are going for a hot rod you probably have your own thoughts as to what you want to do. Of interest is the original radio; which of course it is very weathered, certainly is a conversation piece, and may be usable for parts. Summary – The simplicity of an old pickup is what makes their restoration so popular and easy. This one would make a great project for a father and son/daughter or whatever. While this one will require some paint/body and mechanical work, much of what needs to be done is that which one would normally do anyway in either a restoration or hot rod build. The main point is you have a very solid body and clear title to work with. The old truck deserves another chance in life to show up at your local car show or driven at your work. Payment, Disclaimers, Storage, and Transportation - I require a non refundable deposit of $500.00 within 48 hours of the sale and the remainder prior to me sending you the title. Well I have tried to represent the truck as honestly and accurately as I can; please look closely at the pictures. Make no mistake it is not a currently running vehicle, rather it is a project for restoration or hot rod. The truck is sold as is, where is, and with no guarantee nor warrantee implied or specified. I am very proud of my 100% rating and will answer questions. I will post some of them so that others may benefit. The truck is stored in a secure compound and can remain there as long as you want, as long as you pay the rent of $25 per month. I do have a tow truck and trailer and could deliver or do a partial delivery for $1.25 per loaded mile within a reasonable distance. Please New York City, Daytona Beach, and Tim-buk-2 are not reasonable driving distances of Montana. Also, for the buy it now price I will deliver the truck for free within 100 highway miles of Clancy, Montana. Good luck with your bidding and thank you for your interest.
