1980 AUSTIN MINI COOPER CLASSIC Body/Fender/Mechanics special. Brought over from England in 2010. Right hand drive. Lots of parts and work done but needs more than I have time for. New paint job in 2010. Unfortunately I let the painter talk me out sandblasting it. Now the rust is starting to come through in several places. The drives side is the worst. The door sags and will not close properly. Floor boards are rusted through. But with the right experience and time it could be repaired. All pictures were taken the same day and are current. PROS: All the glass is in good condition, including the sun roof. All the gauges work, but the gas gauge seems to be off. New door handles inside and out New rubber seals for the boot, the hood and the doors New boot lock New tires Rims have been powder coated silver including the spare. Rear brake drums have been turned, sandblasted and powder coated red New fender flares New mirrors New radiator New electronic ignition including coil, wires and plugs. I have new seals and parts for the front brakes to be rebuilt New rear brakes shoes and cylinders The rear brake lines need to be bled or replaced, the rear brakes won’t adjust correctly. Starts and runs great. Gets 42 MPG average CONS:Engine leaks oil, but doesn’t seem to use any. One freeze plug is seeping water. Rust is trying to come through in several places. Drivers door hinges were welded on and the door doesn’t close properly due to rust issues with side panel and door. Drivers side front fender loose at the bottom from rust.Floor boards rusted through on drivers side. Drivers door handle does not open from the outside. Needs tinkering with. All seats covers need to be redone.I lost the gas cap from under the chrome cap on the way home from the mechanic. I have been told that the body needs to be acid dipped to eliminate the rust and then the body work re-done and repainted. Horn stopped working when I had the mechanic fix the electronic ignition. Might be loose wire. I hate to sell it. Everyone loves the car and it gets more compliments and comments than any car I have owned. My financial situation requires that I downsize and sell some vehicles. Nearly $9,000 invested includes original cost, shipping, paint, tires, seals, electronic ignition, radiator, brakes, powder coating rims etc. My loss your gain. If I get the time I might address a few issues with the car prior to selling like getting a new battery and trying to determine how to bleed the rear brakes.
