Vehicle Detail

1958 Austin Healey 100/6 BN4 **I've added a couple videos to the website listed below.** I listed the mileage above as what is on the odometer. I've put about 1200 miles on it since the restoration. I purchased the chassis in a stripped bare, rust free and primed condition in 2004. The car returned to road service in September 2013 after extensive restoration and assembly. I now have two young children and the car has become impractical for our family, so I’m taking the responsible route and selling it so that someone else may enjoy it and hopefully have the opportunity to use it more than I do currently. Driving notes: When driving the car, one will notice how good it tracks in a straight line and how little effort is required to drive the car, unlike many of the cars from the time period. It doesn’t wander and steering inputs are direct and immediate with no indication of slop in any of the components. Body movements under spirited driving are well controlled while still providing a comfortable ride on the majority of surfaces. The exhaust of these cars has an unmistakeable deep and pleasing tone that enhances the driving experience. I have taken it on many enjoyable one hour or greater trips and experience very little fatigue from the drive. The engine pulls strong all the way to red line and the brakes stop with authority and in a straight line. Here’s a list of the major work that was done during the restoration process: Suspension: -Front and rear suspension completely rebuilt. -New rubber bushings throughout. -Front and rear shock absorbers rebuilt. -New wheel bearings and seals. -The wire wheels were stripped and painted in the original flat silver color and were then fitted with new rubber and balanced. Brakes: -Front disc with upgraded rotors and calipers. -Rear drum with new linings and rebuilt slave cylinders. -Brake lines are all new. -New master cylinder Drivetrain: Rear Differential: -Rebuilt with new bearings and seals Driveshaft: -New U-joints Transmission: -New clutch disc, master cylinder, and slave cylinder. -Refurbished laygear. -Seals and bearings replaced as needed during the rebuild. Engine: -Block cleaned and checked as well as having the cylinders bored .030” oversize. -New bearings and seals. - BJ8 Phase III camshaft. -AEC 960 six port head from a 3000 and was rebuilt with new seals and valve guides for running on unleaded fuel. -2” SU HD8’s from a BJ8 MKIII. -Pertronix electronic distributor -Electronic fuel pump. Electrical: -New wiring harnesses -Converted to negative ground Interior: -New carpet -New door panels and kick panels. -New seat bottom cushions. -Gauges are original and functioning except for the water temperature which is indicated by a separately mounted gauge. This is because the original water temp gauge did not mate with the port on the newer cylinder head from the 3000. The steering wheel works fine, but is cracking and could use some attention. -New trunk lining Exterior: -Painted with a PPG Deltron base coat and clear coat system in Healey Blue over Old English White. The exterior is not perfect with a number of dings and scratches. The blemishes are not obvious from several feet away, but I tried to capture them in the photos where possible. Both bumpers should be chromed or replaced. It is a very good looking driver, but was not completed with the intention of winning shows. Convertible Top: I have a new Robbins Dark Blue top that will go with the car but needs to be installed. Included are all the pieces necessary for the top including the frame, front wood bow and metal retainer, seal, and latches. Also included are a set of new side curtains that still have the protective paper on the windows. As my children get more involved with activities and my time is becoming more precious, I decided not to install the top and to leave it for the next owner. I only drove it on nice days so the top wasn’t necessary for me. Things that need attention: -The overdrive is not currently functional. Since it sat dormant for quite some time, and the solenoid is actuating properly, I believe that the hydraulic valves in the overdrive unit are probably gummed up and stuck with old oil. Possibly a good flush and cleaning would renew the overdrive unit. -I did not install the dash lights since I rarely drive it at night. Everything is there, just needs to be connected. All exterior lights function good. -The heater is not connected. The heater core is installed and connected, but the heater control panel is not finished or fully connected. It was never driven when a heater would be needed, though there is enough heat in the footwell which is a well known trait for these cars. For a more in-depth description and photos, please visit http://home.comcast.net/~kk202/index.html I would encourage and be happy to show the car with an appointment for serious bidders. Deposit of $1000.00 due within 24 hrs of auction close and full payment due within 7 days of auction close.
