Vehicle Detail

1978 Mercedes 300CD Coupe. W123 series, Diesel, of course. 162k Miles. Own owner (woman) for 99.99% of its life. (she had it for 160k plus of its 162k miles) Entire life has been spent in Dallas, TX. All service records, (36 years worth!) and all original Mercedes Owners Literature including metal warranty plate. Has current Texas inspection sticker. Car runs, stops, shifts and steers perfectly. I have just placed two new Michelins on the rear of the car. Quite economical and good on fuel. EVERYTHING works, including the Air Conditioning which blows ice cold. I am in Dallas, so I do KNOW good air conditioning. I live in a world of FULL DISCLOSURE, so Let's cover ALL the car's little flaws first: the wood grain trim has a few cracks around the Shifter for the Automatic Transmission. The car has a few little bumps on the body, and one which caused the rubber on the Bumper to buckle in the rear. When I photographed that piece for this ad, I noticed a little bubbling in the paint on the very bottom corner of the rear quarter panel under the trunk. Then I discovered why: a drain was blocked in the trunk on the driver's side. That very small area is the only rust in the entire car. It is easily repaired if you should choose to do so. I would probably leave it alone at this point, but that would be up to the new owner. I unplugged the drain and there was a small amount of fluid there. The undercarriage floor pans, under hood, are all superb. Again, this is Dallas, no salt, and this car was driven sparingly by the original owner for 30 plus years. The service receipts bear this out. All gauges work properly, as do the electric windows and power sunroof, including the clock. The needle on the fuel gauge will occasionally twitch when below one 1/4 of a tank. It does not do so when there is more than 1/4 tank of fuel. NOW, all the good. These cars were built to last. They did, and will. Engines routinely can go to 300k. I did take a photo at idle showing full oil pressure. This car HAS been routinely maintained, and the records bear this out. Car simply runs wonderfully. This little car has a presence about it. Understated elegance that I miss in a car. Classic Styling. It drives well, has that Mercedes solid bank vault feel. Starts right up. Steers, points stops wonderfully. Brakes are superb. No play in the steering. New bulbs in the instrument panel, and they look good at night. Interior smells great. Superb carpet. Superb covers on the seats. All good inside. You could replace that little wood grain piece around the shifter, but I probably would not. Spare is in place. Original First Aid kit in back. Why am I selling it? I bought it to place in another city where I work at times to use as an extra car. That project is winding down, and I do not have enough garage space to keep it. It really is a gem of a little car. I will miss it. I enjoy this car like I do a VW beetle. Not fast, but just reminds me of things I like. No emails please. Pre purchase inspections welcomed and encouraged. If seriously interested, call 214-902-9724. If you have no previous buying activity on ebay, you must call first. Non-refundable Paypal deposit of $1000 required within 24 hours of auction end. Balance due within five days. Thanks again for your interest. Good luck.
